June 28, 1990: James Hobson, City of Chicago Metropolitan Area ‘1990 Supervisory Employee of the Year’, from Mayor Richard M. Daley, receives a Chicago ‘Proclamation Award’ from Mayor Richard M. Daley, recognizing his superior public service. Hobson is also the Rogers Park Community’s ‘1990 Citizen of the Year’, and the recipient of the Chicago Police Department’s ‘1985 Citizens Award’, for crime prevention.

Jim Hobson, Kiwanis Park supervisor, and Rogers Park Tenants Committee member, helps Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley get the ‘Safe School Zone’ Ordinance passed in City Council. The signs were installed in schools and parks throughout the city.

1981: Jim Hobson, new Chicago Park District supervisor of troubled Kiwanis Park, begins its long awaited recovery. Hobson told the Rogers Park Community that he would quickly remove gangs, drugs, shootings and violence.
On June 22, 1990, Mayor Richard M. Daley proclaimed Kiwanis as the best park in Chicago.

Jim Hobson, 4-time Hall of Famer, and 2-time Citizen of the Year, was awarded a City of Chicago 'Resolution Award' from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Hobson received the award in City Council Chambers on July 25, 2018 at 9am. Hobson is already the only person in Chicago history to receive all 5 of its highest honors, including the Medal of Merit (1970)', ‘1990 Supervisory Employee of the Year’, ‘1990 Superior Public Service Award’, and a ‘Proclamation Award’. Additionally, Hobson is the only person in Chicago Police Department history to receive ‘Citizen Awards’ for crime prevention in 2 different communities (24th & 11th Districts). Hobson is also a decorated Vietnam veteran.

Legendary James Hobson, 4-time Hall of Famer and 2-time Citizen of the Year, was honored by the Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs, with an Illinois Veterans Patriotic Volunteer and Appreciation Award. Hobson was also named Illinois ‘2018 Veteran of the Quarter’.

1984: Jim Hobson, 3-time Hall of Famer, fought long & hard for the right of Kiwanis Park kids to be given the same resources as all other parks in Chicago. His efforts were rewarded by the federal government in the form of a consent decree with the Chicago Park District that mandated that Kiwanis receive help over and above other parks in the city.
On June 28, 1990, Kiwanis was recognized by Mayor Richard M. Daley as the best park in Chicago. Wow!
