Pretoria metro police official in court over alleged R1.75m estate fraud
A 36-year-old Pretoria Metro Police Department (TMPD) official, Peter Nonyane, also known as "Lamasweet" or "Greater Gagash", is appearing in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court today, Monday, 17 August 2026, on charges of fraud and money laundering.
Nonyane was arrested in Pretoria on Friday by the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit. Investigators allege that about R1.75 million was unlawfully withdrawn from a deceased estate's bank account.
Approximately R1.65 million of the money was allegedly used to purchase a pre-owned Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 from a Pretoria dealership, to the detriment of the estate's lawful beneficiaries.
A second suspect, reportedly Nonyane's wife and a lawyer who allegedly authorised the transfer, remains at large and is being traced.
