Retro Gaming Fan from the 80's | Physical Media Collector | I talk about all things NES, SNES, SEGA GENESIS, DREAMCAST | You love retro? Drop a follow.
Just saw a discussion about some one’s physical video game collection and it got me thinking
If you have a huge physical media collection what is your plans for it? Like when you die do you have kids to leave it to with the same passion for it? Do you plan to just let the government come in and throw it all out like they did when people die alone if you have nobody to leave it to? Do you see yourself wanting to sell it at a certain age to use for retirement money?
This is NOT my collection, I have no idea who it belongs to got it off google lol

This is probably the most honest post I will ever make on social media. Its a very long winded but its my truth.
I am currently 49 years old and will turn 50 in 2027. As most already know in 2013 I got divorced and had to pay a settlement. I sold a HUGE collection of gaming stuff. Everything I had collected since I started gaming in 1986 as I did not want to leave with a bill hanging over my head. It took me 13 years to get over it to where in April of 2026 I said its time to get back to gaming again and buying things.
The problem was the gamer I was in the 80's, 90's or early 2000's was not the older gamer I am today. I wanted it to be. but 13 years later I started gaming and things changed. games have changed. They are far from the days of pick up and play. Now they are stories, some games are half game half movie. Games are all open worlds that want you to travel around for hours on end discovering things. Figuring out puzzles. Games can take 40, 50, hell even 100 hours. All those things are great but they are not who I am anymore. Not at 49. Not with a career outside the house, a wife, animals, etc.
So because of that I was soul searching. I have bought so many games and still do and I would play for 5 hours lose interest, or I would play and once it turns into movie time in the game I would start falling asleep. I would read about a game I was interested in and it would say takes about 80 hours. Nope sorry have to pass that will take me 2 years to finish.
When I came back my goal was to create a twitter account (check), meet great people (super check) and create a YouTube channel in my spare time to post videos of my passion (FAILED). The problem was I had no idea anymore what my passion was and it showed and my YouTube channel sucked. People can tell if you post stuff with no heart. So I changed my name on twitter, and YouTube like 6 times since April to find a theme, From JimPlaysNintendo, To JimPlaysSports, JimPlays something else. But none of them would stick while in this soul searching.
So it took a lot of money spent and a lot of trial and error over the past 4 months to figure out what type of gamer am I today. Lot of games I spent money on that might never leave my shelf. But all that trial and error led me to today. I finally think I know what type of gamer I am now. And that is a simple one. A retro style gamer. All the trial and error taught me what I truly like. What my truth is. I like retro games. Not just any retro games. NES, SNES, Genesis. Why? Because most of them are just pick up and go. And those that have tricks and puzzles you do not have to walk 800 miles and do 82 things to figure it out. I like sports games, Why? Because I am pick up and play. I love 80's music, by far my favorite, I love 80's movies (I still enjoy movies today but 80's are my favorite). They did not care about graphics and such. They cared about the story.
So what is the point of this crazy long post that took people way longer to read then they would like. It's to thank those who stuck with me as I built my X friends list even though I changed my name 6 times. Thank you for sticking around and I have one more name change coming but its the last one. And to the new people who stumble upon this page. I am a retro first gamer. That is my true passion and I hope some of you who like the same want to follow along and chat.
Regardless of what you seen in the past on my page going forward everything is truly going to be about Retro gaming. Mostly NES, SNES, and SEGA talk. That is who I am at this point in my life.

Alright my fellow Spiderman Fans, Do not kill me but I have to be honest. The only spiderman movies I have liked in the entire series are the ones starting Tom Holland. I honestly did not like any of the ones before him.
appreciate you Kryfton. That is the truth I try to get into all the new stuff. But Its like 1 out of every 10 games I can do it. Sports games no problem. Love sports. Some games like Adventures of Elliot or Indie games usually really good. These big popular blockbuster games just dont do it for me
