🇬🇧 The RAF Fairford story just changed substantially.

Counter-terrorism police now say there were no explosives in the 3 vans that triggered the massive security response near the U.S. airbase.

What they found was a quantity of petrol.

And police have now offered an intriguing explanation for why all five suspects were released on bail.

Head of Counter Terrorism Policing Laurence Taylor called it an “investigative decision” grounded in “experience and strategy.”

The five remain under investigation and face strict restrictions on their movements and contact with others.

Police are still examining multiple possibilities, including whether anyone involved was knowingly or unknowingly acting on behalf of a foreign state.

So two things are now clear.

The original fear that police had discovered vans carrying explosives was wrong.

But the decision to release the five men wasn't described as the investigation falling apart either.

Police are explicitly calling it strategy. What that strategy is, they aren't saying.
