@White_Janissary@stanfordNYC So it just doesn't mean anything about how solid Shirley's case is, he knows that he can be imprecise about his accusations for views and he wouldn't get in trouble. So "defamation lawsuit" territory doesn't matter for him.
@White_Janissary@stanfordNYC I just don't think the daycare center, even if they were 1000% in the right, would be inclined to aggressively defend themselves via lawsuits.
@White_Janissary@stanfordNYC I think that's a handwaving of a lot of hours of lawyers' bills and outside scrutiny that would take years to unravel. They should probably retain a lawyer to fend off any audit or inquiry, but I just don't see a defamation case being in their interest.
@White_Janissary@stanfordNYC And this kind of immigrant focused business doesn't really need good lress. They already get the marketing they need by running advertisements in local Chinese-language. Being more firmly mired in a culture war would be likely just be a distraction.
@moricarr@QueenMab87 KTown is pretty legit. It's more a business than residential district, but I don't really think you can deny the immigrant influence there. It retains much more of the language influence and business influence from new arrivals than Little Italy
@stanfordNYC@ellisislandsup@HistoryBoomer For example, somewhere else in the thread, you proposed a requirement to repatriate late in pregnancy. That has constitutional concerns and also runs up against sex discrimination, workers protections, etc. That's the kind of policy I think Americans would recognize as cruel.
@stanfordNYC@ellisislandsup@HistoryBoomer I think if you are dispossessing a group of (eventual, hypothetical) political rights and only valuing them for their economic benefit, you end up with structures that will naturally be pretty violative.
@stanfordNYC@ellisislandsup@HistoryBoomer It's not mass charity to not want your country to institute UAE, Qatar, or Singapore style worker systems. Those systems are human rights nightmares and I'm pretty confident the average American would balk at what those systems look like.
@SkibbderBibditz@Juicewag@schmieder83 and more importantly serious sports fans watch a lot of sports, including the finals of the sport, and they would root for a team in those series. Maybe they like the players, the storyline, whatever. That's extremely common even if it doesn't rise to adopting that team.
@SkibbderBibditz@Juicewag@schmieder83 I don't know the specific numbers, but I just know it isn't atypical. Baseball fans sometimes have AL/NL teams, ppl will become fans of the team in their college city, or the team where they move. This just isn't rare at all.
@Juicewag@schmieder83 The Bucks and Knicks have one playoff series against each other historically, they're not really rivals. Plenty of sports fans have second teams, and plenty of sports fans watch the Finals and just root for the more sympathetic team. It's all pretty normal and typical.
@teaze_r@magi_jay it would be more colonizer for reynoso to represent NY-7 when he would lose by 20% in a fair election, wouldn't it? all those years in the district didn't help him close that margin, so how much does it matter really?
@dildoswaggns@constans you can work on a ton of different things as an artist, some more profitable than others. so again, it's hard to judge whether she's just doing whatever or if she's compromising and trying. the big immediate issue here seems to be her housing situation which fell apart.
