Finally arrived, the original issue of MSM's 1st LP. When I met @gloriaestefan & @emilioestefanjr in Tenerife last year Gloria told me that only 500 were made, you could see the sides of the background so all subsequent pressings had that fixed! Hard to track down, very happy!
@GloriaEstefan & @EmilioEstefanJr congratulations on your well deserved Latin Grammy for Raices, such a great album & what a fantastic year. I'll cherish the memories from Tenerife & Madrid! Just waiting for my coloured vinyl to make its way home to the UK now 🥰
@GloriaEstefan & @EmilioEstefanJr listening to Unwrapped on the journey to work this morning. Need this masterpiece on vinyl! So many great tracks! https://t.co/lWEVNaELqM
Back home after an amazing weekend in Madrid to see @GloriaEstefan perform for 150k+ people in Plaza de Colon on Sunday and attending the Conga fan party Saturday night so we could celebrate her 50 years in music together ❤️
Oh wow, love this new additional to my @GloriaEstefan collection! Arriving just after her birthday too! Lovely way to celebrate, love the old fashioned portrait picture on the front! @EmilioEstefanJr 🥰
So happy to add this to the collection, slowly getting there with the early Miami Sound Machine LP's - look how young @GloriaEstefan & @EmilioEstefanJr look here 😍 this is next on my list to try and get them to sign 🥰
@GerardScaleraJr@GloriaEstefan@EmilioEstefanJr Lovely collection! I've been looking at plugging some holes...I only need 1 more thing released in the UK which I cannot find and then the UK vinyl collection is complete!
It's my birthday today and I'm so thankful to my other half for arranging the recent trip to Tenerife to see @GloriaEstefan for my birthday 🥰 and @DennisMarwin for sorting it for me to finally meet her after all these years. Look at these stunners!
@GloriaEstefan@EmilioEstefanJr thank you for an amazing night and meeting my son & I. We had an amazing time - so many things we forgot to say. Such a great performance too. Night we'll both remember for years to come 🥰
@GloriaEstefan looking forward to seeing you tonight! Im coming along from the UK with my 11 year old son, he said we should have brought our dog Gloria, who's named after you and will be 13 this year! X
@chartdata@RIAA What's the issue/reason it seems to only be fairly recent acts? I assume they're easier to get now since streaming (still hard but easier comparatively to 30 years ago I mean)?
With 1.6 million people, @Madonna's Celebration Tour in Rio breaks the record for the largest standalone concert by any artist in history. Not female pop artist, but any artist; male or female, dead or alive.
While it's a nice quantifiable amplification to the power of her legacy, the significance of her show in Rio is even bigger than the record that she just broke.
That show was an art & politics masterclass, and an exorcism of traditionalist ideals in the face of a mahoosive amount of conservatives.
The raunchy comments, expressions, and simulations capturing sexual liberation. The religious doings of Like A Prayer. The highlighting of queer culture. And so many other themes explored by the show.
All of this, conducted by an aged woman whose free agency is always written off by the public due to age, whom they never fail to remind that she's way past her prime and should retire. We all know how stubbornly daring Madonna is.
On the issue of women being reminded that they're way past their prime due to age, Madonna is once again trailblazing and I think the significance of this is understated.
The production value of that show was peak art!!! Performed by a 65 year old!
Don't you wonder why Madonna is the poster girl for ageism against females in the industry despite not being the oldest? She's actively reprogramming our mental images of what an aged woman can do.
An aged woman can still work her ass off to produce ambitious and artistic productions that speak to culture, and you'd think it was done by some young artist full of vitality.
Well yeah, that's the point. That Madonna, 65, with over 40 years of a dominating career, is still full of artistic vitality, serving exemplary creative direction in her work for future 60+ year olds to remember and be inspired by.
So it doesn't matter that this record of 1.6 million audience will be broken in the near future - because, face it, the Copacabana show format is now an attraction in pop culture after Madonna's show.
What matters is the foundational impact that Madonna's production, and brand, has created for the industry and the culture going forward.
A pop star coming along to break this Madonna record in the near future, will be a validation to the cultural impact of the The Celebration Tour in Rio. But it would not mean that they have done the same thing that Madonna has done.

@Cakes_Comics It brings me & my son closer together, we both love it and share in the joy together! Can't wait for him to see the Phantom Menace on the big screen for the first time tomorrow! 😍
