@cecsquared In this situation. Literally initiate any kind of communication at all. Ask your child how they’re doing. Ask them to go to a movie. Show them you know their favorite fucking color without it being the prologue to your next outburst, favor, or disappearance.
@LaGrecca333 Yeah it has nothing to do with woke therapy and everything to do with instability. If you’re making an effort to be part of your kids’ lives and showing reciprocity, you’re doing it right. If you literally scream at them and show signs of untreated mania/BPD, they will walk.
It’s sad. It’s terrible. But it’s not in every case a child who grew up in a safe, nurturing nuclear family deciding they hated their parents. Some people were put through emotional abuse in their childhood and learn when to stop sacrificing their sanity. Should be a last resort.
Well, this is sad and terrible:
“Many experts believe that estrangements between adult children and their parents are becoming an epidemic in the U.S.”
“Psychologists say young adults’ definition of harmful parental behavior is changing.”
They “consider ordinary conflict to be much worse than it once was” and “have a much broader definition than their elders of psychological harm.”
“Many now view repeated criticism, strong disagreements and other painful relationship conflicts as abusive.”
“In their minds, they see themselves as more enlightened and therefore more justified to cut off for more reasons.”
@cavesofsteel Beta blockers. I could be going 150-170 chew 25 mg of metoprolol tartrate and it’ll knock it out in an hour and I can carry on. That said I have a rate issue not a rhythm issue so I know it’s safe to trust that process. Been doing it for years.
@lawrencepatihis Note to the wise: this L take is based on the idea that everyone grew up in a stable nuclear family. For those who didn’t and earnestly desired closenesss and affection and instead received aggression, walking away is painful and at times necessary. It’s not “ooo i hate mom.”
@HetkeBrian@JillFilipovic Likely complexity breeds it. Which is my point with AI. People are getting way too hung up on the processes argument. Mine is that the processes themselves may be so complex they create consciousness.
@potatoslav@ZacMabry Because you had a close relationship with your father who chose to have a close relationship with you. Imagine having a parent who screams at you, threatens you, and accuses you of conspiracies.
@ZacMabry Generally, you shouldn’t. However, there are situations where a one chooses to not be a meaningful part of your life and brings so much chaos that you ask them to choose to be part of your life or walk away. If they walk away it’s on them. Not everyone has great parents.
@KR3Wmatic The Quran: “The Christians are both right and wrong. God is a god of love but kinda hates you. Beat your wife with a toothbrush.”
Beautiful poetry ♥️
@ElizabethHolmes Thing I don’t understand - the technology was physically impossible. How do you square that with the sense you were wronged? I’m legitimately curious. Unless there’s something everyone’s missing and if so I’d love to know what that is.
@alittleleader Nah he’s 100% right, went through this once with a cat and if I hadn’t said no we would have spent thousands on it for a tiny chance of survival. As a man, you need to protect your home and finances. It sucks because we have to do this and be the villain. 🤷🏻♂️
