Crikey- you may be right @elonmusk - it feels like imminent civil war in London this evening - people from all races and religions sitting in the sun, having picnics, walking dogs, playing frisbee, enjoying the greatest city in the world. #edgy
‘I try not to think about dying’: Sven-Göran Eriksson on his terminal illness, scandal, and why he feels sorry for the next England manager https://t.co/SzPcJ76qUt
This special cup was from my first ever world title when I was 12 years old, winning the World Girls' (16 and under) Championship in England. I was not allowed to play in the West before. Therefore, there was a lot of pressure for me to win.
After I won the tournament clear first against older girls, as a reward, my parents took me to Madame Tussauds in London. When we got there, we realized that the entrance tickets were too expensive. We did not have enough money for the 3 of us to get in. So my parents sacrificed themselves and got me a ticket (at 50% off because of my age) to go inside while they waited outside.
Coming from a poor family, I learned not to take success and wealth for granted. I worked hard on chess every day. I did not take any day off and I never had a vacation until my twenties.

If only a few senior Republicans had shown this kind of courage and clarity as Trump corrupted their party, normalised lying in public life, became the worst president in history and then tried to stage a coup when the country said no. McCarthyism Mark 2 - the cowardice shown by those who could have stopped it. And great that John Giles steps in with such a brutal tackle on Trump (non soccer fans may need to look it up!) #dirtyLeeds

This is the #Brighton I know & love so much 💚💚💚
Our city will stand firm against any attempts to bring violent racism, Islamophobia, division and hatred to our streets #Brighton
It is custom to joyfully chant "Allah hu Akbar" on our hikes. It's a call to remember the greatness of God, and simply translates to "God is the greatest". It's time we educate against fear-mongering.

This should be our Dunblane moment. Only with social media not guns.
@elonmusk is a feckless billionaire whose algorithms pose an imminent threat to life. He won’t act. So it’s critical that we now do.

Just because you’re loud doesn’t mean you’re popular. The thugs on Britain’s streets last night tried to shriek and bully us into thinking they had a majority on their side, when the only thing they had on their side was bricks. The rest was noise. They’re a tiny fraction of a country that’s much bigger and more generous than they’ll ever be.
I drove east into London on the A40 this afternoon. Light breeze, not too hot. London is always beautiful in the sunshine.
Drove past Uxbridge. No riots, no looters, no cars overturned and ablaze, no sirens.
Drove past Greenford. No riots, no looters, no cars overturned and ablaze, no sirens.
Drove past Acton. No riots, no looters, no cars overturned and ablaze, no sirens.
Parked in Westfield. There is sun, no sign of rain, but the full rainbow of humanity is here indoors.
(They say they want their country back, but they actually want their empire back, the one their grandparents' generation lost. The Empire came home. And here we all are! )
The shop assistants everywhere were from every corner of the earth. The customers the same. Girls and boys, men and women, from every place in the world, peacefully going about their lives on a London Sunday in a cathedral to capitalism in Shepherds Bush.
No shouting. No swearing. No mugging. No knifing. No looting. No burning. Just the world in one city under a giant glass roof in peace.
Sometimes, you don't know how good you actually have it. When London is good, it's really bloody good.
Most places in England are good, most of the time. Most people in England are good, no matter what the forces that seek to divide us want us to believe.
I remember being broke and homeless 20 years ago this year, carrying my possessions in four bags and thanking God for my legs when I was deep in my material nadir.
You already have your country. I already have my country. Both can be true.
I don't want to take your job, unless I'm better at it. I don't want to put shariah in place over your head and in any case, the law in this country is about as close to shariah as I need. Why would I endanger that just to piss you off for some marginal gain? Think about it.
We can get along. We are not enemies. Those grifters are fooling you, scamming you, and they're thick. They think 1+1=Foreigners. Their sums don't add up. They get tax breaks. Do you? Work it out.
We aren't going anywhere and we won't roll over frightened like our parents did. We belong here. We ARE the British Empire. This is the legacy.
It's not us you want your country back from. It's the foreign papers, the con artists who took COVID money, the scum who bought our water, the financial institutions who gambled away our future and made us pay for their next round of bonuses in an endless era of austerity. We didn't freeze old people to death. We didn't make food banks necessary. Cameron and Co did all that. We're just easy targets. A distraction.
This is still a beautiful country. This is still a peaceful country. How about we find away to make it better for all of us:?
Isn't London beautiful in the sunshine?
Nothing to see here, just two shameless morons enjoying a lovely day out looting. Best not share in case they get caught and sent to prison.
#FarageRiots
It's impossible to view the postings of Farage, without utter revulsion.
He masquerades as a " reasoned commentator" on what he claims to be a national crisis linked to immigrants while claiming he deplores any lawlessness. Then he hints at more lawlessness if his warnings are not heeded.
The reality is that his entire political future is dependent on fomenting confrontation and division. It is by creating a climate of crisis that he has got where he has.
And some of my former Conservative colleagues have argued the Conservatives should be linking up with Reform! Perhaps this shameful episode will open their eyes to his malevolence.
