The Validation Meeting for the Male Engagement Strategy and Implementation Plan has today concluded at Fairway Hotel, Kampala, with closing remarks from Dr. @rmugahi99, Commissioner for Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) and Co-Chair of the Male Engagement Technical Working Group.

Dr. Mugahi underscored the need to deliberately integrate mental health into every component of Uganda’s Reproductive health programming, describing it as one of the country’s biggest emerging public health challenge that requires greater attention.

He has emphasized that male engagement is a critical component of reproductive health and plays a vital role in achieving improved health outcomes, particularly at the community level, where men’s involvement significantly influences health-seeking behaviors and family well-being.

Reflecting on past interventions, Dr. Mugahi has also cited the Youth-Friendly Corners initiative as an important concept that was successfully introduced and implemented but later lost momentum due to the proliferation of multiple service corners within health facilities. He has called for more integrated and sustainable approaches to service delivery that maximize impact and efficiency.

The meeting brought together stakeholders from MoGLSD, MoES, UNFPA among others including HEPs-Uganda to validate the draft strategy and implementation plan, ensuring a shared vision for strengthening meaningful male engagement in reproductive health across Uganda.
