Over the weekend, we received the sad news that @african_stream will be closing down shortly. As a sister newsroom similarly focused on telling important stories through unapologetically Pan-Africanist eyes, and as cordial colleagues and friends, we were deeply saddened by the news.
On a continent where journalism is all too often controlled and subjugated by external interests, African Stream represents the culmination of a journalistic paradigm shift in Africa, where the narratives reaching millions of African eyes are shaped by the interests of Africans - not those of foreign state-controlled actors and private commercial interests.
Due to the brutal attacks on African Stream’s revenue generation channels by the U.S. State Department and its affiliates at Meta, Google and Stripe - attacks that also targeted West Africa Weekly - African Stream may have been temporarily hobbled, but we have no doubt that this can only ever be temporary setback. The fierce spirit of freedom and liberty behind African Stream cannot be destroyed by the US Government or any other human institution or endeavour.
They once labelled that fierce spirit "Drapetomania" - a supposed mental illness afflicting enslaved Africans in the antebellum US who rebelled against their oppressors. When that didn't work, they later labelled the fruits of Marcus Garvey's political work as"Bolshevik subversion." In the 1930s, they labelled the same phenomenon "Soviet interference." Then from the 1960s they labelled it "Communist interference." Nowadays it is "Russian propaganda." In future it may even be labelled Vietnamese or Martian foreign influence operations, simply because certain people cannot understand and stomach the concept of Africans assertively driving their own narrative in pursuit of enlightened African self interest, but it will fail as it has always done.
The deliberate and unapologetic quest by Black people for their freedom from all forms of foreign economic, political and cultural imperialism will never die, and we will never go away.
The usual suspects may think they have buried us, but they have merely planted another crop of seeds. Indeed one of these seeds is @WestAfricaWeek Week Editor-in-Chief @DavidHundeyin who previously worked at African Stream as a reporter and an output editor.
Earlier today, @WestAfricaWeek Managing Editor @joyfwen who was on assignment in Nairobi stopped by African Stream's offices to offer our unrestricted and unqualified solidarity to Ahmed, Erick, Wambura, William, Fungai, Lawryne, Dennis, Sanna, Oyoo, Geoffrey, Inem, Julie, Zakaria, and the rest of our colleagues at African Stream.
From David, Kangmwa, Churchill, Mayowa, Confidence, Nalu, Segun, Joy and the rest of the team at West Africa Weekly we offer our siblings in Nairobi not commiseration, but congratulations for becoming legendary.

As a token of my appreciation to God for an added year(28th December 2023) and his many other blessings, I gave back to forty 40+ students from my Constituency by paying for their JAMB fee today.
Thank you all for your different inputs in my life and particularly to my donors.
I woke up this morning wondering how we got to this cul de sac. In 1999, @officialABAT claimed he attended St. John's Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos, before proceeding to Children Home School in Ibadan. According to him, his next port of call in his educational journey was Government College Ibadan and, Richard Daley College and Chicago State University in the United States. Curiously, in 2023, Tinubu settled with attending only @ChicagoState. I am scratching my head. How is that possible? Methinks that all well-meaning Nigerians should be as confused as I am with Tinubu’s declaration that he had no primary and secondary education, yet he has a university degree. You may wish to #AskTinubu how he attained this feat so that we can learn from his ingenuity 😆 -AA

Please share this with people you cherish.
To clarify the 5 Billion Naira Allocation for Palliative to various states of the Country, Plateau State Government has received 2 Billion which includes a 52% grant component and 48% loan component.
Part of the 5 billion Naira, we have been mandated to use 1 billion Naira to buy rice locally. This is to ensure that money circulates within the local economy. Along with the allocation, 3,000 bags of rice was received and has been shared to the Local Governments and I want to pledge my honor that not a single kobo of the 5 billion Naira will be misused.
We have also set up a committee which will advice the Government on possible palliative options which we will look at so that it covers the wide spectrum of the society. We will be looking at issues like improving the bursary of our students, getting fertilizers at a subsidized rate for our farmers and all the other components we can look at within the constraint of the resources at our disposal.
By the Grace of God, we will do this responsibly.
In leadership, growth is essential. Last week at the Retreat and Onboarding of The Executive Arm of Government in Plateau State, I stated that investing in our knowledge and skills empowers us to better serve our beloved Plateau State.
This applies to our own personal lives, businesses and daily pursuits as Plateau citizens. We are better positioned for success, when we take the little but significant action of retreating, retraining, and rebooting.
Wishing you a productive week ahead.
The First Lady of Plateau State, Barr. Mrs. Helen Mutfwang, has pledged her commitment to supporting widows on International Widows' Day by collaborating with Civil Society Organizations, international partners, and other stakeholders.
Yesterday, I hosted the Governor-elect of Plateau State, Barr Caleb Mutfwang. We had fruitful discussions on the state of our nation and the way forward. -AA
@jiritmpg This act should be condamnable and the perpetrators penalised to serve as a deterrent for the future, ma. It was indeed an act of shame and a disgrace to an institution of such magnitude.
I wish to commend @inecnigeria for standing up to Rec. Hudu's rascality and restoring the hopes of the already demoralized electorates of @Adamawa_Gov and Nigerians alike.
It isn't about the side of the divide you stand. If what happened in Adamawa is allowed to stand then we are clearly heading for disaster.
Elections have its standard procedures.

Kano, as a city of commerce, finds an appeal in our mission to #RecoverNigeria. Recovery means returning Kano to its place of pride in industry and entrepreneurship.
On behalf of my team, I wish to share my deepest appreciation to the people of Kano for such a large turnout.-AA
We spoke about the benefits of promoting small and medium scale businesses and how our plan to transfer more resources and responsibilities to states and local governments will make the people the centerpiece of the economic transformation.
