Xhaka is a strong enough character to spearhead a cultural revolution at Chelsea.
That alone is worth signing him.
Will have a Henderson or Milner at Liverpool type influence at Chelsea.
Sub-elite individuals players, yes, but their influence supersedes their individual level.
🚨🔵 BREAKING: Marco Palestra to Chelsea, here we go! Verbal agreement in place between all parties.
Atalanta to receive package over €55m fee plus sell-on clause, long term deal to Italian talented RWB.
Chelsea hijack Inter move and get new talent for Xabi Alonso.
🏆 Referee announced for 2026 #SuperCup!
We're pleased to share that Somali referee Omar Artan will officiate the highly anticipated match between PSG and Aston Villa in Salzburg.
If Chelsea do end up using a 3;
We should probably go for Schlotterbeck.
— Transformational feel of a seasoned/experienced captain/leader who’s been to a CL final etc (important with our young defence) + brings Rudiger/Cucu energy
— One of the best passing CBs if Colwill ever goes down again. Both on the pitch together would be elite in possession + takes burden off needing a passing RCB (facilitating more value for carriers like Fofana/Josh)
— In games vs fast wingers or tricky wide players we have Jorrel Hato (wouldn’t want him if he wasn’t In the squad)
Feels like there’s no obvious move there for him (or us), and he witnessed Alonso live and direct in the Bundesliga. His pull could maybe get it done. Anselmino also maybe a bargaining chip?
He’s maybe the valuable transfer we can make in defence if we only sign one player.
Smart to have best itw level passers in defence (esp if we gonna lose Enzo).
We want to be a special possession team afterall, so need as many special “in possession” players as possible.
Schlotti/Hato - Colwill - Fofana/Josh (really trust Josh next year) is something I can get behind.
Beggars cannot be choosers.
‼️Everyone needs to chill out on transfers. 3 weeks ago everyone told me we wouldn’t be able to attract Alonso look what happened.
Now the latest narrative is no one will join us! Relax we will be fine, I know everyone is use to transfer dopamine but the club are trying to do things differently this year and do as much quietly as possible.
Things will start to come out soon!
Enzo Maresca showed one of the clearest blueprints yet on how to hurt this PSG.
Chelsea’s approach was different to Arsenal’s in two key areas:
1. Going long only when 1v1s existed up front.
If PSG pressed aggressively man-to-man, Chelsea looked for 1v1 situations up front. If PSG stayed less aggressive, Chelsea built and looked to find the free man.
The difference with Arsenal? Arsenal often went long even when they had a clear numerical superiority in build-up, giving away an advantage and arriving in inferiority for the second ball.
2. Offensive transitions through wingers.
Maresca’s plan after regains was clear: attack space quickly through the wingers. The two strikers stayed narrow and deeper to pin PSG’s 3+1 rest defence centrally, opening space wide for runners. Palmer’s second goal is a great example of this dynamic.
Defensively, Chelsea were also more man-oriented than Arsenal. In the high press, they tried to maintain a +1 at the back but shifted into full man-to-man pressing when the ball travelled wide. In deeper phases, Pedro Neto often dropped to form an almost back five, helping to preserve a spare defender centrally. This helped Chelsea defend PSG’s wide overloads and triangles better. Chelsea accepted inferiority against PSG’s back three, leaving the two strikers high.
That said, Arsenal’s deeper zonal block arguably controlled PSG better overall, allowing CBs to defend wider while midfielders protected the central gaps between them.
Arsenal conceded less. Chelsea hurt PSG more.
Arsenal need to keep doing what they’re doing, but add more threat in transitions without losing defensive security and take slightly more risks in possession in big games.
I’ve deeped it… nothing brings people together like the universal hatred for Arsenal 😭 FARKKKK I’ve been laughing for hours man everybody a comedian today!
Chelsea are built as a 4231/343 team.
Back 4 vs lesser teams. Back 3 for big games.
That’s probably the healthy balance.
We need 4 final pieces to execute this well.
— LW/#10
— Starting level RCB/CCB
— Phsyical midfield “alternative”
— High flying LB (Cucu replacement)
