My Baba is no more.

I always called my father Baba. None of the Western Daddy or Dad for me

My earliest memories are riding on his motorcycle & enjoying the wind. Every night, he would tell us stories from Indian history - of Gods, Panchatantras & so on

He was a Math genius

Reading was his passion. After retiring, he would sit in his easy chair or bed, reading books, solving high level Sudoku, eating peanuts

He loved travelling & meeting people

He was very open minded & not at all judgemental about caste, creed, religion or colour

He had a brilliant sense of humour, had unique nicknames for all relatives & regaled every one with his ready wit & jokes

He loved meeting relatives & our vacations were always in our dada or nana’s or some relatives homes

Likewise, our relatives would stay in our home whenever they came in Mumbai

Our home wasn’t big, but our heart was

My father got diabetes quite early in his life - in his early 40s

7 years back, my father went into a hypoglycaemic coma as his sugar went down

He was in coma for 3 days & then had a slow & painful recovery

We had physiotherapist, speech therapist, nurses for him. He never fully recovered, but he was not a vegetable - his memory was good, loved to have people over, his intelligence went to about 50 % of the original & he laughed & joked

In those 7 years, he NEVER complained - why has this happened to me? Why doesn’t God take me ?

Nothing.

He made the best of the second chance that God gave him

My mother remained a picture of strength & optimism. She also NEVER complained, served him dutifully & said even if all my money is over, I don’t care.

She refused any financial help from us & footed all the enormous medical expenses of having nursing staff round the clock

In those 7 years, his health sometimes deteriorated so much, we thought he will die, but he survived & how - through covid waves, chest infections & so on

He even voted in every election & performed his duty as citizen of world’s largest democracy

My dad finally passed away this Sunday morning at Brahma muhurta

He was a very pious man - no bad habits, a big devotee of Mahadev

I pray to Mahadev to give this kind & gentle soul sadgati🙏🙏

Despite Atul Subhash committing S*icid€, let me remind people of the reality of our judicial system.

Demanding alimony for a kid is legal in a divorce case. Nikita Singhania cannot be arrested for this.

Hearings of court cases of divorce, dowry harassment, extend over a period of 8 to 9 years.

No action can be taken on a Judge if she is hearing the case and has laughed. Yes, no action.

People demanding Accenture to fire Atul Subhash's wife, what reason will the company give to fire her ?? Her divorce is her personal matter, and not a company matter.

Abetment to s*ic*de case cannot be proved in the court. Because in the court, one has to prove that on the day of taking of the life, the accused person was directly responsible for the death. A lawyer easily proves that his client was miles away at that time. That is why, no one till date has undergone a sentence for abetment for suicide in India !!

Even though the death of Atul Subhash is extremely tragic, and heart wrenching, it is our judicial system and woman's psyche which has to be changed in order to bring about a positive shift.

If YOU want to bring a change in this society, then the change should start with YOU. Every man and WOMAN should pledge not to advice their daughters, sisters to ask for alimony in a divorce case if they are working. Every woman who is working should never demand alimony.
Lawyers should stop fighting cases of woman, who earn lavishly and still vengefully ask for alimony from their husbands.

This is how we can bring about societal change.
