In my discussion this week we talked about how there is no clear cut way to always reach your target market in advertising. Do you think that the current tactics will last for a while, or do you think they will phase out eventually, and why? #313 #UWJ201
@taraminor11 I think so Tara. Each ad you see is almost never going to try and achieve the same goal. One might target current users and one might target potential users or a product. I think it all cones down to the situation. #313 #uwj201
After looking at scarcity in advertising, I never really realized how prevalent it is in attempting to sell a product. It can be incredibly persuasive and I have found myself falling victim to it in the past. Do you let scarcity influence your buying habits? #uwj201 #313
@taraminor11 Great question Tara, I think each one has its advantages and disadvantages. I think most advertisers might want to go for central to establish a brand, whereas peripheral might be used to establish a short term campaign. #uwj201 #313
@taraminor11 I COMPLETELY agree @taraminor11! I think the question you pose could sway in either direction of being more beneficial than canceling people. I personally don't find canceling people effective as it doesn't address the problem, so I would would answer yes. #313 #j201
@taraminor11 Hi Tara, I agree with you that it would make sense that journalists would be less affected by the third person effect, but I also think that as we are all human, on an unconscious level journalists still insert their own views in their work. #UWJ201 #313
@carly_marsch I almost would say that having more control over what students can say would make the image of the private school less appealing. In addition, I dont think that democracy would be as efficient or even present in those schools either. #uwj201 #313
I find it intriguing that free expression can act as an "escape valve" and lead to less violence as proffessor Katy Culver talked about in her guest lecture. I think it makes a lot of sense and is a great supporting idea for the first emmendment. #uwj201 #313
@EricksonMakenna I agree with Lauren, I think honesty makes any reporting, reliable reporting. If people want to know what is going on in the world, they expect the truth, and without honesty there is no truth. #UWJ201 #313
I never knew about the different types of articles that can be written for a network. When i was browsing on a politically opposing networks home page and saw what I felt to be outrageous claims, I realized they were opinion articles, never knew! #UWJ201 #313
@agirlcalledally I think the media is pushing people away even further from consuming media just because of the toxic reputation is has been getting over the last couple years.especially with the recent presidential elections. #UWJ201 #313
I never thought of how education impacts how we as media consumers view news and media in terms of a polarizing political view. I didn't know the more education one has, leads to a decrease is believing a certian media is biased! #UWJ201 #313
After doing my prepared speech on the hostile media effect, I couldn't stop thinking about the effects of polarized media. Was the hostile media effect around in the 1800s and if it was, was it as powerful as it is now? #UWJ201 #313
@taraminor11 I do find it interesting that we hold a significant power and control simply by using social media. I have never thought of the control I have on determining news/headline agendas, but it is something to keep in mind while using social media. #UWJ201 #313
Framing is something that I never thought of until our recent lecture but it is hard to unsee different arguments after they have been "framed" a certain way, in order to pull you to one side of the argument. #UWJ201 #313
@AlisonStecker @mariathestar01 I completely agree Ali! I'ts hard to really be able to trust news articles and always assume they are credible. It almost seems like we must believe everything we hear is false before we can believe it's true. #uwj201 #313
@EricksonMakenna I completely agree! I don't know why that it but my best guess is they might not want to associate themselves with the brand because their company morals or values might clash. #UWJ201 #313
I thought it was very interesting to see the chart of the trusted media and which way each news source leaned politically, a few of the shocked me! #UWJ201 #313
