Trees near Eufala. I would call this my first successful painting. It was my first time painting on a wood panel (very nice). Everything came out nicely, my color mixing was better, and I wasn’t accidentally removing paint instead of adding it. I’m getting the hang of it!

Ahh, wouldn’t you know it, now that I’ve started painting again, I had to buy more paint! Hopefully I can hold out until it arrives next week… I should recoup this anyway at some point, right?

Also, I’m back on the Windsor & Newton water-mixable oils. They aren’t quite as vibrant or smooth as the Cobras, but they are definitely much easier to clean out of my brushes. I expect that to become less of a big deal over time, but for now I prefer that over paint quality.

Today’s painting. For this one I didn’t use a sketch, which led to some huge composition mistakes. My greens were also misbehaving, so I had a hard time with the light side throughout this painting. I was able to salvage it somewhat by using a paper towel to remove some paint.

My second attempt at an Ocean Sunset in mini watercolor. The kit was fighting me this time lol. First, the black paint exploded all over my desk (including my monitor), and then it got warped while I was washing it. Oh well, I guess it’s not meant to be a long-lasting kit anyway

I tried out the watercolor kit I wrote about in my previous post, and it was pretty fun! Not bad for a first watercolor. The black paint tube exploded in my hand though. I hope these paints are able to be revived with water if they dry out. We’ll see!

My mini watercolor kit arrived today, and I’m excited to see what I make with it! Once I get the hang of it of course lol. The picture may not show it very well, but the palette is quite small, only about two inches wide. Very cute though!

I guess this counts as a new painting lol. I tried out Cobra water-mixable oils, and they were nice, but I think I’ll stick to the Windsor & Newton ones for now. They’re cheaper and easier to clean.
