The Christian nationalist “dudes” are unusually good at the modern influencer game. They focus on baiting opponents with audacious claims, that sound counter cultural and "radical" to keep their names circulating in the algorithm. They feed upon the outrage of their critics to "prove" they are right and they are simply just being persecuted. Their followers buy this logic 100% and that's why they are so devoted in defending them.

The point is to keep feeding their audience new claims and revelations, similar to an gnostic experience. It's like they got some "inside knowledge" that no one else does, and no one truly understands things like they do. That is the same playbook Alex Jones has run for decades. Focus on the latest cultural controversy, press into it had, sound like you are a prophet in the wilderness and no one else is "sounding the alarm" and continue to do this over and over to feed your audience. The controversy is not a side effect. It is the product.

Like any political movement, rhetoric means nothing unless you have some political power. And just because you amass a large following on social media and get lots of views, doesn't correlate to having political power, even if you believe you are "shifting the goalposts". Who have you gotten elected? Can you even take over your local school board or county council?

I do not trust Webbon.
