I’ve criticized JJ McCarthy plenty. He misses throws he has no business missing. His consistency isn’t there. I understand why the Vikings didn’t trust him as QB1.

But QB1 wasn’t the job I wanted him to have. I wanted him as QB3.

He knows the offense, he’s won games for this team, and his teammates clearly like him. Tell me why getting a fifth-round pick is more valuable to THIS Vikings season than keeping that option on the roster.

Watching back the Vikings' offensive tape, Kyler Murray looked rusty. Jumpy in the pocket, not trusting what he was seeing, not always on the same page with his receivers.

I expect him to improve over the next couple weeks. If he doesn't, the Vikings are going to be in an interesting spot.

It also wasn't all his fault. Run game has to be better, pressure was an issue at times, and O'Connell needs to scheme up more layups. This week provides a nice bounce-back spot for the entire offense.

I’m going say this once and then move on. Vikings GM Nolan Teasley and Head Coach Kevin O’Connell buried JJ McCarthy in the depth chart and ultimately traded him largely because of memes. I know what you’re thinking, there’s no way the leaders inside the org evaluating the players would make decisions based on the noise. I think that’s normally true, but in this case, the way JJ was being portrayed in the media affected their decision. They didn’t want to hitch their own careers to a guy that was being dragged through the mud publicly. The fact is JJ showed flashes of brilliance and steady progress in his first 10 starts. No other 1st round QB would’ve been abandoned under these circumstances. Now the Vikings have the 32nd ranked offense in the NFL because their leaders are cowards and hypocrites. I don’t know if JJ will pan out in the NFL but I do know what he’s made of and his ceiling is higher than most people realize. I’m hoping that John Harbaugh can provide the steady leadership JJ needs to realize his full potential.
