Georgia was not invited to the NATO summit that took place in Ankara on July 7–8.

Representatives of several NATO partner countries attended related events, including Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also among the guests.

Georgia was not included either in the summit programme or on the agenda of the accompanying defence industry forum.

“We have no problem attending the summit. Ask the organizers why we are not represented,” Georgian Dream MP Irakli Kirtskhalia told journalists.

Georgia’s Foreign Ministry did not answer a questions on this matter, but later announced that Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili would take part in a separate event in Turkey titled “Allies in Ankara.” That event is not part of the NATO summit.
