@Damian_Barr@NCLFilmTv The Ravenscraig cooling tower brings back memories of my childhood. Such a strong image for me (we could see it from our house). My dad filmed it being demolished. Was the end of an era for sure
@implausibleblog@AldiUK I always use my own bag / bags. It does cross my mind that someone might ask me why I am filling my bag as I shop the store but I’ve never actually been challenged ever. It’s just my preferred way to do a quick top up shop!
@emreadsthebooks I love Maggie O’F and just couldn’t finish this book. I’m not so into historical fiction, and really didn’t enjoy the 2/3rds of this that I read! I guess life would be boring if we all liked the same things!
@Damian_Barr I was explaining to my kids today about Ravenscraig and the closure impact. Really feel for the people of Port Talbot too. Sadly so reminiscent
@emreadsthebooks I remember expecting more from it as it was on one of those top 100 books you just read lists. I was likely a little disappointed (sorry. Trying not to be too neg given you are reading it! ). Possibly it just didn’t resonate with me 🤷🏻♀️
@Malc__B@mrblairbowman One thing to note, my
comments on ave. £ for GB Scotch category are based on off trade mainstream supermarket and high street sales. I don’t have visibility of on trade/ luxury retail/ travel retail. It is profitable to launch premium Spirits but they are a smaller slice
@Malc__B@mrblairbowman The majority of the category sells through at the lower prices though in GB. Bottles selling at £40+ collectively deliver a tiny share of overall Scotch sales in GB - a few percentage share points at most
@DaveDMan8@oldmudgie@mrblairbowman Not blended whisky. It is cheaper in England. Cheapest a litre of blends can sell in Scotland is £20. In England standard price was £16 per Litre when MUP was introduced. £17 a year ago and now £18 post duty increase. So Scottish shoppers do pay more for blended Litre deals
@Malc__B@mrblairbowman Blended Whisky often sells below £16 per 70cl. Litre deals were typically £17 in the last year or so and post august duty increase are broadly moving to £18. Litre deals are even less profitable thanks 70s
@mrblairbowman@Malc__B I head up the Spirits analytics team at NielsenIQ. It’s astounding the proportion of each sale which goes to COGs/logistics/supplier+ retailer profit. I did similar calcs pre+post Aug duty changes. Pretty clear why headline prices are having to increase alongside shallower deals
@AmarLatif_@UGSchool@RafikiThabo@TheoBlossom@maddiemoate Oooh do you have links to Uddingston grammar? I went there + my 3 kids are there + coincidentally my old colleague Janne Pilbeam may have just climbed with you for Rafiki Thabo. Massive congratulations, such a tough mountain to conquer (speaking from my 2014 experience!! 💪 🏔️)
