As a Polish immigrant in London I used to subscribe to @TheEconomist more then a decade ago .. cancelled the subscription when they sided with the heavily corrupted government on Polish political scene just because the other side was centrist-traditional.. they even had an extra edition on Poland, used every mental gymnastic trick to whitewash the corruption and smear the other side.. was enough to realise that every article I read back then on the international issues I had no insight in was most likely the same pile of rubbish.. I used to think highly about their editorial work before… and never bought it afterwards

Long answer: to raise your kids you are not looking for somewhere ticking your boxes now, your horizon needs to span over 20years, western culture became children unfriendly some time ago, and all basic measures are just declining: housing costs, street safety, access to healthy food, gangs and gang violence, access to drugs and depravation, disrespect to rules of law that are now wide spread, not to mention things like fiscal issues, spiral of debt, and we are living in easy times.. what will happen when things get worse? Political instability.. next two decades will see more and more of a cultural war unravelling in the western world, progressives who have been in charge for last few decades are realising something is changing.. there is something brewing under the surface, with democracy where winner takes all.. next decade will most likely be very interesting.. that would cover US + Western Europe,
Central and Eastern Europe follows suit.. its dragging behind.. a decade perhaps.. but elites are pushing the same ideas, the same concepts, that are changing western culture in the central and Eastern Europe too.. there is some self-loathing within the elites, they just want to replicate whatever the west is doing in order to be praised by the usually more wealthy western neighbours.
Massive polarisation of the populations in the western world together with democracy will not result in the stability over the next two decades.

Let’s be realistic there is no ideal place in the world, but I would prioritise stability, growth, safety, rule of law, moral principles among the society when deciding where to raise kids

People are absolutely broke in the uk, they roll mortgages over new properties because none of them want or can afford to sell first, rent and buy again, rarely anyone have cash to buy property upfront.. people are barely scraping for 10-20% deposits, sales taxes etc… and property prices are through the roof because every major town is surrounded by green belts where you cannot build new homes so the existing stock is severely overpriced

The problem with this logic is the most people take the biggest loan the bank is willing to give them, leaving very little room to save and overpay, people put themselves at risk because when the bank says they can lend them for 250k home they find 250k home instead of buying something smaller in less desirable neighbourhood for 150k and keep more control of their finances.

Not only that.. at one point it’s been watched by 1.7 million people.. few talking heads sitting in small one bedroom flat without fancy studio, teams, coordinators, media presence.. just an honest desire to help sick kids. Amazing! Companies outbidding each other live, former adversaries bridging the divide after many years of conflicts, love and peace the Polish way! Love Poland! 🇵🇱 ❤️
