If you put 100kW of CPUs in a rack and use those CPUs to do CPU things, then obviously the denser/higher core count rack will do more CPU things?
That same 100kW of CPUs is not generating ~any tokens from any AI workflow, agentic or otherwise, right? Is that not where the $ is?
I've been tracking GPU stock levels and prices for a long time and the above situation is unprecedented.
5070, 5060/Ti 8GB, and 5050 are still available from stock at reasonable prices (for now).
None of this moves at the speed of Internet so we'll just have to wait and see.
Whether a product is officially EOL or not, is there a functional difference if the shelves are bare? The RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti, and 5060 Ti 16GB are sold out everywhere in the USA as far as I can tell. If there's not a restock any time soon, then that's the ballgame.
Dusting this account off to share that I’ve joined the Tom’s Hardware team as a Senior Analyst! I’ll be covering anything and everything to do with graphics for the site, and I’m excited to be back in the saddle as a reviewer and writer. Keep an eye out for my byline soon!
@RyanSmithAT Yeah, it's sad but I got to live a dream, work with some awesome people, and see behind the curtain and I wouldn't trade those experiences for the world. On to the next adventure!
Unfortunately, I learned today that I was one of the employees affected by the latest round of layoffs at Intel.
I am looking for work both internally and externally, so if you know of any roles where my skill set might be of use, please reach out!
Thrilled to share that Dr. Ann Kelleher is now @Intel executive vice president. So well-deserved with her many contributions including the turnaround of our Tech Dev organization this past year. https://t.co/dosGNCs0qC
Re-upping because I still need one: would anybody happen to have an ROG Maximus XI Code motherboard that they're not using? My i9-9900K needs a stable home...
I'm a @nytimes subscriber and @wirecutter is where I start most of my shopping for practically any product. Their work is invaluable and they deserve fair compensation and humane policies for their labor. It's disappointing that NYT management doesn't see the value of this team.
Much as I'd like to casually browse @wirecutter's Black Friday dealspotting, I'll be abstaining this year in support of the @wirecutterunion. The staff there deserves a fair deal and I'll be staying off the site until I hear that one has been struck.
