All that to say…

Student Minister, are you currently serving within your role with a true calling to preach Jesus to teenagers OR are you just doing this as you wait for the next big position in a church to open up?

Then, when someone who sees Student Ministry as a stepping stone or doesn’t have a legitimate calling to the ministry, steps into the role and faces a pastor/church that doesn’t value that ministry, they leave often damaging the church and ministry even more.

The Church needs…
1. More individuals who feel a true calling to Student Ministry willing to preach the Gospel instead of just hosting fun driven events. That’s how the tide is changed.
2. Pastors who value Student Ministry and the ministers who serve within them.

The average life span of a Student Minister in a church is currently less than 6 months per church. That’s the AVERAGE. Burnout plays a role in that, but the larger reality is that Student Ministry is missing individuals who feel legitimately called to Student Ministry.

As a Student Minister who wants to do Student Ministry until God makes it clear that it’s time for me to stop, I think one of the largest missing pieces in Student Ministry is a legitimate call to Student Ministry itself rather than seeing it as a stepping stone.
