@anthony_bosman I'm glad that we agree when the post is taken in its full context...
... that's why I objected to the OP and offered that your description of LR is a mischaracterization
@anthony_bosman Yes, I did state that. And I literally quote Hebrews 10:14 as the context of the statement. (much like one did in this thread to which you agreed)
I don't know about other denominations... but in Adventism there's a quickly approaching implosion when the tithe base ends up passing on (I'm guessing 15 years or so?) The need for pastors to have skills to leverage in the marketplace has never been more important
3 terrible questions to ask when trying to discover your calling:
1. What career will help me earn respect & adoration
2. What career will help me earn the most money in the shortest time?
3. Which career will give me the most freedom/ flexibility?
Which means, it comes at the expense of my calling, it comes at the expense of my family, it comes at the expense of my health
Learn from my mistake. Be disciplined, say no.
Today's one of those days that I'm reminded of the importance of saying no...
The last few years have been really solidifying the need to say no to things that fall out of my unique calling/ assignment...
Unfortunately, I said yes to something that was close (but not quite on target) and I'm regretting it
The cost of of not saying no when I should have is at least a dozen hour investment into something that isn't central to what God has given me to do...
Try these questions instead:
1. What am I passionate about?
2. What gifts has God given me?
3. Where do I have the greatest opportunity to love others?
What if they're not meant to be a lawyer, doctor, or pastor? What if you're actually leading them down the wrong path?
What would change if you submitted your child's future to God rather than the social pressures of "success?"
I challenged the assumption that every child in the church was called to be a doctor (for context, this was a largely asian church iykyk)
"What if the plan you have sketched out for your child ISN'T the path God has for them?"
