A 15-year-old dream has come true today. I started a PhD with the dream of creating a system that chants any Sanskrit shloka perfectly.
And here I am opening sourcing 𝐕𝐚𝐠𝐝𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐮 - 𝐀 𝐯ṛ𝐭𝐭𝐚 (𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫) 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 ś𝐥𝐨𝐤𝐚-𝐭𝐨-𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭-𝐭𝐨-𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐡 (TTS) 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐤𝐫𝐢𝐭. This is the world's first vrutta-aware, open-source TTS for Sanskrit Chanting.

Largest Hindu temple of India. For comparison, it is larger than Vatican City.
This is Shri Ranganathanswamy Temple in Tamil Nadu, India.
This temple is dedicated to Vishnu lying on a cosmic serpent.
It covers an area of 156 acres, more than the area of Vatican City.
It has 50+ shrines and 21 massive towers with intricate details.
It has been active for centuries with rituals, festivals and daily worship still happening.
In Tamil Nadu, the BJP being in power at the centre has been used by essentially all the parties to demonize them. The DMK made "attack Modi" as their only plank. EdappadiDMK (that is the correct name) would have done the same thing if the Congress had switched over to them. In Tamil, we call this பூச்சாண்ட காட்டுதல் - like my grandmother would tell me as a kid "that tree next to the pond has a ghost that will catch you, so don't go near it" to keep me away from swimming in the pond! Modi is their favorite பூச்சாண்டி.
So when someone parrots the line "we want to keep the BJP out of Tamil Nadu", they are saying "we don't want competition for our cozy duopoly", not some deep principle. The BJP has been in alliance in AP and Pondicherry and those states are doing fine, they are making excellent progress. Yet TN is supposedly "different".
The "difference" was the BJP getting into alliance with these same parties (EDMK or DMK) that want to openly or secretly suppress them in TN.
What is the way ahead? Find good youthful passionate leadership that are willing to fight the good fight long term. Focus on building up the party from the grassroots. Ignore all the பூச்சாண்டி business. Do not align with anyone who claims "TN is different". TN is Bharat. We have to fight this subterranean separatism.
Annamalai was making progress but he needed a lot more time. He was creating a genuine political movement, he invited youth to be active in politics and he had massive engagement.
I would have volunteered for this assignment too (I love building up from zero!) but I am neck deep in tech and Bharat needs deep tech. So not in this life time. To be very clear, I will state my political views (my right to free speech) but I will not be in active politics.
I hope all our educated citizens do engage in this political debate and express their opinions, but let us all do it RESPECTFULLY.
A builder in my city has developed a gated residential society exclusively for the elderly population:
2 BHK homes, a central mess, recreation areas, walking gardens, full-time nursing support, dedicated ambulances, hospital tie-ups, and an in-house team to assist with bills, travel, legal, banking, online orders, etc.
It has a four-year waiting list!!
Unlike traditional old-age homes, this is independent community living where senior citizens own private homes while having medical and lifestyle support available whenever needed.
It has become immensely popular among families whose children live outside the city or abroad and are unable to stay with their parents full-time. I think this concept is going to expand rapidly across urban India in the coming years.

In 1975, Henry Godson, CEO of Merck (then the world’s second-largest company), expressed his only regret only sick people could use his company’s products.
He dreamed of a day when healthy people worldwide would also consume them just like chewing gum, which everyone uses regardless of age or health.
All major pharma companies share this vision: turning the entire world into repeat customers.
Take sleeping pills soon you can’t sleep without them. Antidepressants create deeper dependency. Even diabetes drugs can make healthy people reliant in days.
It’s not fiction. GlaxoSmithKline bribed doctors for 20 years to push drugs on healthy people, knowing many would become dependent. In 2010, they were fined over 16,000 crore.
But does a fine erase their moral crime against humanity?
Pharma’s real business isn’t curing disease it’s creating lifelong customers.
Mount Athos, an autonomous monastic region in Greece, enforces a strict Avaton (prohibition) that bans women and even female animals (except cats to curb mice, lol) from entering the entire peninsula. This rule has been in place for over 1,000 years to maintain monastic celibacy and honor the Virgin Mary. Violating this law can result in legal penalties, including imprisonment. Access is restricted to men with a specific permit.
The prohibition extends 500 meters (approx. 1,640 feet) from the coastline. Even tourist boats are restricted to maintaining this distance.
The ban is upheld by the Greek Parliament and is recognized within the European Union for spiritual and religious reasons. Attempting to enter can lead to a prison sentence of two months to one year.
According to Orthodox tradition, the peninsula is dedicated to the Virgin Mary ("The Garden of the Theotokos"), who is considered the only woman allowed on the mountain.
One of the traditions that has been handed down regarding this is that the Virgin Mary was supposedly blown off course when she was trying to sail to Cyprus and landed on Mount Athos. And she liked it so much that she prayed to her son that she should be given it as her own and he agreed. It is still called 'the garden of the mother of God', dedicated to her glory, and she alone represents her sex on Mount Athos.
Another tradition has it that centuries ago, after several monks reported visions of the Virgin Mary, following whom it was decided that the Athos monks should devote themselves only to her, and that no other woman should be allowed lest they may outshine her.
I am waiting for @AKanisetti (who blocked me recently) to write articles on this too and call the Virgin Mary as controversial because there is a small mountainous peninsula where she won’t allow other women to enter.
Please reshare a lot. We need women to enter Athos mountain too. European Union should intervene in this affair asap and our judiciary should enforce our constitutional morality on the Greek Orthodox Church. @halleyji@infinitchy@jsaideepak@labstamil
