I have mild symptoms, otherwise, I am OK.

My heart goes out to the millions of IDPS, who still face the challenge of having to go back to their places of origin. I am very hopeful that the peace agreement signed heralds a new era of peace and a solution to all the outstanding persistent problems

With UNAMID mandate in Darfur officially over on the 31 December, I bow out after almost five years at the helm. I am eternally grateful to the leadership management team, all UNAMID colleagues and the Government of Sudan for all the collaborative efforts.

UNAMID conveys condolences to the family and people of Sudan on the death of the former Prime Minister of the country and leader of the National Umma Party. His passing robs the people of Sudan of a creative and inspiring leader, a democrat throughout.

Today, #Sudan took a historic step to bring peace to their country. The leaders of the transitional Govermnment and the #Darfur movements have shown great leadership and foresight with the signing of the #SudanPeaceDeal .

#UNAMID stands ready to support the people of Sudan.

This was also a wonderful opportunity to meet with government representatives including Lt. General Hamdan Dagalo, the leadership of the SRF, Al Hadi Idris and Jibril Ibrahim and leader of SLM/MM Minni Minnawi, who have worked tirelessly during the negotiations.

Today, I had the honor to be attend the initialing ceremony of the Juba Peace Agreement (JPA) where the Sudanese government and the Sudan Revolutionary Front and SLA/Minni Minawi initialed seven protocols, in the presence of Sudan’s Senior leadership.

I & all staff mourn the first #UNAMID Peacekeeper who died on 2 July in #Khartoum following #COVID19. Condolences to his family and loved ones. To fight COVID19, let’s adhere to protection measures, in particular wearing masks & ensuring social distancing.

I participated, symbolically, in moving boxes of face masks on to a UNAMID flight at Khartoum airport to be transported to various towns in Darfur, to combat the spread of COVID-19. The initiative is supported by the German Govt in collaboration with the Sudan Govt

Yesterday, I met with with Lt. General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, a member of the Sudan Sovereign Council. The meeting discussed the security situation and investigation into recent violent killings in Kalma IDP camp in South Darfur and other issues of mutual concern.

As Sudan moves forward, transitional justice remains a key issue at the heart of peace in Darfur. The voluntary surrender of Ali Kushayb to the ICC while in the Central African Republic is a step towards addressing issues of justice and peace.

Today, I and UNAMID staff marked the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers and in memory of those UNAMID peacekeepers who have lost their lives in Darfur, a cenotaph was inaugurated at mission HQ.

Sudan has come a long way from the glorious revolution of last year. The pledge by @SudanPMHamdok, today, for "achieving comprehensive justice and retribution for the souls of our hero martyrs...the wounded and missing is an inevitable and irreversible step" is a positive step.

I signed on 31 May with Mr. Babagana Ahmadu of FAO in Sudan, a revised MOU for implementation of a joint project on strengthening local capacities to address intercommunal violence and to find sustainable solutions to its root causes in Darfur region.

On 18 May 2020, I met with the Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council, Lt. General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, to discuss issues of mutual interest including the Mission’s operations, its support to
the Government of Sudan amid the COVID-19 and planned UNAMID exit.
