A couple from Dovheni Village in Limpopo has turned rejected avocados into an award-winning business.
Husband-and-wife team Hulisani Mabugana and Hulisani Mudau, founders of Ecovado, have been named the winners of the Seeds of Change 2026 Enterprise Development Programme.
Instead of letting lower-grade avocados go to waste because they don't meet fresh-market standards, the couple transforms them into premium avocado oil and other value-added products, creating income, reducing food waste, and adding value to local agriculture
Patrice Lumumba became Congo’s first post-independence Prime Minister on 30 June 1960, when Congo gained independence from Belgium after 75 years of colonial rule.
There was chaos within days of him assuming office, forcing Lumumba to set aside his governing agenda and focus on survival. He had to quell a mutiny in the army, invite in more than 10 000 UN peacekeepers and tour nine world capitals to lobby for help.
But after just two and a half months in office, he was overthrown in a CIA-backed coup led by Joseph Mobutu who placed him under house arrest, after the CIA had dispatched poison vials to assassinate him.
Four months later, he was shot dead by Congolese assassins in the Congolese countryside
Contrary to popular belief, Patrice Lumumba was not pro-Communist, he actually had greater affinity for the United States than the Soviet Union
According to the book The Lumumba Plot: The Secret History of the CIA and a Cold War Assassination by Stuart A. Reid, Lumumba was neither a naive victim nor a flawless hero, but a brilliant politician with not so good statesmanship.
In any case, the US destabilisation of the Congo under Lumumba became a model for future meddling in Cuba, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and post-1979 Iran.
South Sudan has joined other African nations in condemning Iran’s recent missile and drone strikes in the Middle East.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the attacks targeted energy facilities, residential areas, and shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz, describing them as “unjustifiable” and violations of international law and the UN Charter.
The strikes reportedly impacted Israel, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Türkiye, Cyprus, and Azerbaijan.
Other African countries, including Kenya, Morocco, Djibouti, Tunisia, and Somalia, also condemned the attacks. South Sudan warned that the tensions could threaten regional stability and global energy security.
THEY DID THE UNTHINKABLE - What the Elders say the Aliens did in Africa 14,000 Years ago.
What Credo Mutwa relates to is about African creation myth is a deeper lesson than the distorted lesson about the Epic of Gilgamesh and Umbaba the old African god.
