@nathankurtyka Optimized Writes are currently supported on brand new creates of MySQL 8.0.31 on R6g (and other) instance types. You will need to transfer data into it using dump/manual replication (or using AWS DMS).
@dennisivy11@neondatabase Please check if you are still on PostgreSQL 11 which is now in extended support. The cost can be avoided by upgrading your PostgreSQL to recent major versions. Amazon RDS does support upgrading directly to PostgreSQL 14 or later too.

@ianlandsman Is the CPU more at same transaction throughput? Did you try upgrading to 8.0.35 which has performance improvements related to write throughput. Also if you are upgrading from 5.7 then highly recommend enabling optimized writes through RDS Blue/Green using M5 or later instances
