So much of the media coverage of Abdul El-Sayed vs Haley Stevens emphasizes Israel policy in the context of how it makes American Jews feel.
What about how it makes Arab Americans feel?
We spend our entire lives watching our native countries and relatives get bombed, occupied and dragged through the racist mud by elected officials and media. And then we’re smeared in the U.S. as bigots for opposing it.
If Abdul wins, it will be a watershed moment for Arab Americans. To have a U.S. senator who makes challenging the machinery that enables and justifies genocide in the Middle East a central part of his politics goes beyond mere representation. This guy is willing to confront the system that has murdered and dehumanized our communities for generations. Feels big.
I have observed and studied legacy media reporting on Palestine for years. I have had the opportunity to analyse documented patterns of dehumanization that - nearly three years into a genocide - are beyond shocking.
Palestinians in Gaza can't even receive PayPal donations to help them survive. Meanwhile, AIPAC gets to spend at least $32 million against a Michigan candidate who wants to stop arming Israel:
Ohh, poor Israeli soccer player getting booed by the crowd after he taunts them. What a historic tragedy. Make the fans visit a Holocuast Museum.😢
You should hear what happens to the top Palestinian soccer players.
The Trump admin sent FBI agents to subpoena NY Times freelancer Matthew Cole for his sources
Cole exposed a sickening US war crime in which Navy SEALs massacred North Korean fishermen after they were caught planting a surveillance device
The SEALs punctured the fishermen's lungs to make sure they would sink and not be found
Trump authorized the failed raid in 2019 ahead of talks with Kim Jong-Un, and with the goal of spying on the North Korean leader
Cole happens to be publishing a book about Jared Kushner's web of financial corruption
Do you see what's happening here?
Devastating report on the crisis in Cuba's healthcare system. People are dying due to Trump's brutal blockade. How can people like @SecRubio say they care about the Cuban people? What gross hypocrites! https://t.co/QKXJvDmLhU
Israel can do so.
Ban any gathering of 20+ people in the occupied territory, with no explanation (if Palestinians).
That's what apartheid looks like: different rights based on identity.
That's why Israel deserves isolation, and its leaders investigation and prosecution.
