One thing that has really stood out to me in these JID interviews is that he’s focused on feeding his fanbase. Success to him is hard ticket sales, not a #1 hit or a Grammy or anything.
In a time when vinyl scams are abundant, live shows sometimes are a letdown, & merch more often than not is low effort, this mentality stands out to me in a BIG way.
JID has gone out of his way multiple times to say he’s grateful for his fans, the outro of GDLU is essentially like a thank you to the fans, the amazing live shows for $1, and him not caring about appeasing anyone outside of his core fanbase, all makes me want to support him even more.
This approach is genuine but it’s also going to pay off in the long run as streaming devalues the art even more and artists struggle to stand out in a changing landscape.
Offset speaks on J.I.D:
“Nobody is f****n with JID lyrically in ATL. I’ve seen his shows & impact vs the public opinion. He will sellout shows back to back and do more than people who may [appear] to be more famous online”
Gotta salute Dreamville for valuing Art/impact > clout
