Or...it's possible that when we hear polling data, that the reported data itself is not representative of the overall population.

Whether intentional or not, reporting on unrepresentative polling data may have an influential effect on many people who still pay attention to the mainstream media sources amplifying the polling data, either through informational or normative conformity. And so, whether intentional or not, the result may be more of the general population, who still rely on mainstream media for their information, beginning to think our country is in fact on the right track, despite their “lying eyes” (that is, despite the economic reality that they see all around them).

If it's unrepresentative polling data, a question is whether reporting it that way is intentional or not, for the purposes of nudging public opinion a certain way. I would love to assume the best of intentions with our government. However, based on the way we have seen our government intentionally withhold, spin, or misrepresent information to serve their purposes over the last number of years (all while lecturing us on the growing danger of misinformation), in the overall context of increased self-serving compromise and even overt corruption at the top, paired with the fact that our mainstream media is no longer independent of our government (as they are financially dependent on the government), it’s not a stretch to consider that intentionality may be a possibility, as it certainly serves the government well and, by extension, the mainstream media reporting this (who are kept afloat by the government).

Or at the very least...and this might seem a bit crazy, I know....perhaps politician pay raises should be directly tied to performance, and an ability to operate within a reasonable budget.
Perhaps a percentage of their entire pay should be contingent on performance, given how lavishly they are already compensated for a position with such a low threshold of requirements and qualifications (and I say this with all due respect), when it comes to leadership or governance experience, or demonstrable competence or skill.
I don't think its reasonable to give them yet another generous bump simply for taking another trip around the sun in their role.

This reminds me of that time when the FDA tried to "take 75 years" to release the documents it relied on to license Pfizer's C-19 shot, in response to a Freedom Of Information Act request by a group of doctors and scientists.

It’s also surprising, given how certain our government officials said they were about how safe and effective the shot was, and how they claimed to rely on science and data, that they wouldn’t want to make that data as transparent and available as possible, and as soon as possible, so everyone else could also arrive at the same conclusion, if it so clearly supported that conclusion. Unless, of course, the data shows otherwise, and/or they didn’t actually use science or data to substantiate their claims, policies and mandates (it’s becoming overwhelmingly clear which it is).

Maybe it's just me, but any time governments or regulatory bodies intentionally withhold important information for longer than people will be alive, or longer than those in office will have to face any semblance of accountability (and even that is minimal now in Canada), it just seems so suspect, and it amazes me that the option even exists; particularly around something as important as safety data from real people relating to an experimental shot that millions of Canadians were coerced into taking.

I’m all for calling out overt corruption and the lack of stewardship of our tax dollars that we’ve seen from this government over the last decade. That said, in this case, the program works out to about $2.22 per tree. Typical all-in tree planting costs (seedlings, transport, planters, admin, etc.) seem to run about $0.90 to $2.00 per tree in standard locations (higher in difficult terrain). So, at the high end, this is roughly $0.22 more per tree, or about $48M extra across roughly 220M trees.
We should be careful with which numbers get thrown around. Quoting the total $488M cost obviously sounds terrible, but the potential waste to focus on is closer to $48M, which is still bad, and is part of the overall wasteful and corrupt spending problem with our government (including the billions sent overseas with little or no accountability, money moved to closely held orgs, etc.).

To assess the program’s performance, we should probably look at:

Objective achieved: 11%
Amount of initial budget spent: 15%
Cost per tree ($2.22) vs budget ($1.58): 41% higher
Cost per tree ($2.22) vs industry benchmark ($2.00): 11% higher
Cost per tree ($2.22) vs Parliamentary Budget Office estimate ($2.97): 25% lower

Overall, it seems the government was overly optimistic on the initial budget (not surprising), which was confirmed by the PBO, it came in above typical industry costs for regular terrain (roughly $48M in excess cost), and delivered only 11% of the target before the program was abandoned, after spending about 15% of the budget.

SEVEN days have passed since the Jan 16 Federal Court of Appeal upheld Justice Mosley’s ruling - the Liberal government unlawfully and unconstitutionally violated the rights and freedoms of Canadians by invoking the closest thing we have to martial law, the Emergencies Act, to stifle the most peaceful and polite protest of all time, all to avoid a conversation regarding the valid concerns of their own citizens.

In a healthy, functioning democracy, Canadians would’ve already accepted the resignations of every single MP and staffer involved, saw the commencement of investigations, and, at bare minimum, received an apology for unlawfully freezing their bank accounts, being threatened from an interim police chief they would be hunted down and financially crippled, tear gassed, shot with rubber bullets, trampled, defamed, knowingly and wrongfully accused of heinous crimes, having the ‘justice’ system weaponized against them, and for stealing their money under the guise that Canadians were funding t3rr0rism, although they knew this was not true.

SEVEN DAYS.

No statement from the PMO.
No statement from the Justice Minister.
No taxpayer subsidized media asking questions.
No substantive statement from the Official Opposition.

The unwarranted execution of ostriches at the Universal Ostrich Farm is unscientific and the world is watching.

Here are the scientific merits of preservation of the Universal Ostrich Farm's Birds:

- On Dec 15/25, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a cull order for all 399 ostriches at the Universal Ostrich Farms (UOF)
- On Jan 15/25 there was no further evidence of sickness from the H5N1 virus
- More than 8 months later, the ostriches are healthy and disease-free
- The ostriches present little risk to each other, wild birds, other animals, or people
- The CFIA claim that the ostriches may still be shedding virus, but has forbidden testing the ostriches to test for this highly unlikely hypothesis
- The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) allows for regaining of "disease free" status after one year and the infection is allowed to "burn out" rather than be "stamped-out"
- Since 2021 there has only been one case of H5N1 in Canada and that person recovered.
- 85% of the ostriches survived the last H5N1 infection and the remaining birds clearly have natural immunity.
- The irony is that the main business of the UOF is production of antibodies against infectious diseases including COVID-19
- Ostriches can live up to 75 years and are invaluable for industrial scale antibody production since their egg yolk is rich in a type of antibody that is uniquely stable.

This unwarranted and unscientific culling is squandering a unique opportunity for research and development of diagnostic and therapeutic antibodies to treat infections.

I think a big difference is that the mainstream media has a level of financial dependency on this government (and increasingly so with the increased funding announcement that was strategically made during the federal election), and so their reporting will understandably not be independent.
