The Autumn Wind is a pirate… Blustering in from the sea, swaggering boisterously, robbing the trees of their gold.
A villain big and bold — and a Raider through and through.

Syd Mead’s first foray into film design began with Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), where he was hired to visualize the interior of the V’Ger entity—a colossal, mysterious spacecraft housing a sentient machine.
Originally brought on by director Robert Wise, Mead brought his industrial precision and speculative imagination to one of sci-fi’s most enigmatic sequences. His design for V’Ger’s vast inner chambers—mechanical, glowing, and infinitely layered—established his signature cinematic language: futures rendered not as abstractions, but as believable, engineered realities. This project marked the beginning of Mead’s influential work in Hollywood, soon to be followed by Blade Runner and Tron.
These are a collection of Syd's paintings depicting V’Ger for the film.
The Director’s Edition of @StarTrek : The Motion Picture is playing tonight at @metrograph—featuring additional special effects that finally bring more of Syd’s wondrous designs to life than were possible in 1979.
