The US Award shows like the Grammys, Billboard, or the AMAs creating a separate K-pop category, only shows there is still a barrier for the artists. If the goal is truly to recognize music regardless of where it comes from, why create a separate category instead of allowing them to compete equally in the main categories?
The fact that a separate category is considered necessary says it all. Instead of including major korean artists in the main fields, they continue to be set apart because of their origin. Recognition should be based on impact, artistry, and achievements—not on separating artists by where they come from.

BTS announces they will not submit their music for the 2027 GRAMMY awards, following the Recording Academy’s addition of an Asian-focused category:
“I hope music itself can be heard and loved rather than being distinguished by region or language.”
