After an intense 15 months of review, today Adobe and Figma have decided to end our pending merger, as we no longer see a path toward regulatory approval of the deal.

Let's say you're a designer who wants to get buy-in for a design system...
My advice is to NEVER use the phrase "design system" ❌
It's a loaded term that feels big and scary to engineers/leaders
And yet I believe every single product can benefit from a set of simple and obvious components (buttons, inputs, etc.)
So instead of saying "Hey, let's build a design system!" my pitch would sound something like this 👇
"Hey, how about we build a set of core components? Nothing too crazy... just the ones we know we'll use on most screens. It won't take long and I think it'll help us ship much more efficiently".
Tada! You've just created V1 of your design system!
You might just be able to pull an engineer aside for a couple hours without having to even get approval 😉
And this set of core components might be all you need for a very long time :)
The last thing you should do is start referencing Polaris or Material and trying to throw things into "atoms" "molecules" and "organisms" pages in Figma 😅
We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto. We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you.
Thank you,
