Most parents think the “best” youth football/soccer coach is the loudest screamer on the sidelines because that’s all they see on TV and in movies.
They’re completely missing what actually matters when coaching children.
The real basics are:
1️⃣ Connection – Kids play for people they trust, not people who yell
2️⃣ Positive Role Model – You are their example of how to behave.
3️⃣ Respect – Treat every child with dignity, regardless of talent
4️⃣ Care – Show them you genuinely care about them as people, not just players
Bonus (because these are just as important):
5️⃣ Patience – Children develop at different speeds
6️⃣ Encouragement – Confidence is built with “you’ve got this,” not fear
Yelling might look dramatic on camera.
But connection, respect and care actually develop kids and make them love the game for life. ⚽❤️
Parents and coaches, what’s one thing you wish more people understood about youth coaching?
NCAA just proposed a 5-year eligibility clock for D-I athletes.
Meanwhile, clubs across the country are dragging U12 players to showcase tournaments because "college coaches might be watching."
They won't be. Your kid is 12.
The recruiting window just got wider, not narrower. Spend that $2,000 tournament trip on extra training instead.

The NCAA is exploring a significant change to its eligibility rule, sources tell @YahooSports. The proposal creates an age-based standard: Athletes would have 5 years of eligibility from their 19th birthday or HS graduation.
No redshirts or waivers.

The NCAA wants to expand the tournament so Wisconsin can lose to Auburn instead of High Point and Siena can never even get the chance to take a double-digit lead on Duke.
Arizona is going to go 32-2 with two losses: at Allen Fieldhouse by four, and in OT vs. Tx Tech when their best frontcourt piece was out hurt.
They have been college basketball’s best team from opening night when they upset Florida to Selection Sunday. They should be 1 overall.
@McClain_on_NFL Yall are a joke now. Doesn’t matter how you hide behind your reasons and say you voted yes. It was too obvious of a choice. You as a group collectively are an embarrassment to the NFL and its fans. All credibility you’ve built gone. So fast. It’s recess kickball now - popularity

I didn’t always see eye to eye with Coach Belichick based on how things went for me — but him NOT making the Hall of Fame on the first ballot is insane.
Deflategate was a manufactured controversy.
If an 8x Super Bowl Champion and 2x Coach of the Year isn’t first-ballot, the voters are broken and the system needs to be blown up.
Respect greatness. Period. 🐐
From SportsCenter -- @DanGrazianoESPN on Bill Belichick not being a First Ballot HOFer:
"It's embarrassing. If I were a member of the Pro Football HOF voting body I'd be embarrassed about it and I'd make it very clear that I wasn't 1 of the 11+ who deiced not to vote for him .... You're gonna tell me Spygate & Deflategate, this is a voting body that has for years insisted that it only focuses on what happened on the field. Are you gonna hold Tom Brady out for Spygate & Deflategate too? And by the way, there's guys in there that have been suspended for PEDs, gambling, for all kinds of things. So now, when it comes to Belichick, it matters and it's never mattered before... I think it's a crock."
@KayceSmith Right or wrong, this resolution - this has been the new bylaws for over a year. Stop with the shock and awe over language that was presented and signed off on in 2024!!!
