Lifetime worker/mine safety advocate as miner, Administrator of UMWA Safety Dept, longest serving Assistant Secretary for MSHA with safest era in mining history
It is a sad state of affairs that miners across the country was denied use of the mobile black lung screening unit by the Trump administration. They tried to shut it down completely. Miners deserve better!
A bit of good news: The CDC’s mobile black lung screening clinic is back on the road. Also a setback: the long-awaited silica dust rule is on indefinite hold. https://t.co/SXYFo5MowM
A disaster 16 years ago killed 29 miners at the WV Upper Big Branch mine. Actions were implemented to prevent these. They include quick impact inspections of troubled mines & targeting mines with patterns of violations that curbed mine disasters. Has MSHA cuts weakened them?
The lust for killing people is so heavy from Hegseth’s mouth that it is chilling. I saw the same thing when he reported on the people they were killing in little boats in the ocean. It’s like it’s his life’s greatest joy and achievements. No Christian I know would ever talk like that.
Hegseth: "Death and destruction from the sky all day long. We're playing for keeps. Our warfighters have maximum authorities granted personally by the president and yours truly. Our rules of engagement are bold, precise, and designed to unleash American power, not shackle it ... we are punching them while they are down"
Congratulations to the four wrestlers that will head to Hershey next week!

We knew the grief Eric Dane and his family was going through. Our daughter Christa was slowly dying from ALS at the time. It’s a heartbreaking and terrifying disease that day by day strips away every bit of life. And nothing can stop it. In our prayers. https://t.co/JfCtsHRGEl

Both OSHA and MSHA are short staffed. At MSHA the Trump Administration cut staffing and miners health and safety while pumping billions $ into increased coal production, increasing even more threat of harm. https://t.co/w57ffCOESY
I am happy for Doug’s new adventure. When people talk about someone with integrity, honesty and just a good human being, I can tell you that who Doug is.
Doug Parker, who headed #OSHA during the Biden administration and Cal/OSHA before that, is now a senior research fellow at @Harvard_Law School's the Center for Labor and a Just Economy.

The problems at MSHA has to be much worse than reported in the OIG report. The unwarranted manpower reductions at the Agency by the Trump Administration exacerbated an already shortstaffed agency. With hundreds of MSHA personnel reductions safety and health missions that affect miners safety has to be affected. That needs a thorough investigation

Is your feed full of ICE press release about its raids in West Virginia?
Read this story by @mtnstspotlight’s @ErinBeckWV to know what’s really going on.

@LucasSa56947288 At the time the shot was fired, Alex #Preti was unarmed and kneeling with his back to the officer who shot him in the head.
The gun had already been taken away from him when he was shot.

As MSHA Assistant Secretary in 2010 I enacted the special Impact Inspection program that targeted problem mines with special inspections and published the inspection findings. Those inspections were to find and fix safety hazards to protect miners and prevent incidences like the 2010 Upper Big Branch Mine Disaster. Hiding results of those inspections protects the mine violators, not the miners. Post the results!

Worker safety and health isn’t optional. That’s why the labor movement led the fight to restore NIOSH’s critical funding.
While restoring NIOSH’s funding is good news, the agency’s dedicated safety experts should have never been cut in the first place. https://t.co/0SRu1wbQxb
Great News for miners and workers! Trump Administration finally reversed their actions that deeply cut NIOSH staffing. Thanks for those who helped force the Trump Administrations to reinstate this critical NIOSH Staff. Still need to make sure NIOSH has what it needs to fulfill its mission. https://t.co/lbv8WkyTJO
