Thank you to the first responders’ watch on the I-29 overpasses yesterday (photo not taken), apparently in respect for Eric Zahnd’s transport to his burial site. He was a good man, a strong legal mind and a sunshine law advocate. He will be missed in Missouri. #Zahnd
Since when is there a right to keep yourself “private” when you step out of your home into a public street or drive outside of your garage down the street? The definition of disclosure is bringing something out into the open so that others can see or know it. How is that private?
Is this true? I am hunting online to confirm this. Has FOIA been terminated? I thought open government was hurting in a number of states (including Missouri) and I guess it will just get worse.
Since its founding, @USNatArchives & its public servants have been dedicated to making public access happen for public records. But today, the Trump administration announced they’ll make access end: the National Archives at College Park, MD, “will become a restricted-access federal facility with access only for visitors with a legitimate business need. It will no longer be open to the general public. Security officers will enforce these restrictions, and your cooperation is appreciated.”
From partially open to mostly closed, opaque by default to secretive. Selective declassification & disclosure online or special exhibits at NARA HQ is not a replacement for public access to primary source materials of our democracy.
This statement needs further consideration. Huh?…
