Breaking: President Trump has said that EU imports to the US will face across the board tariffs of 20% and UK imports 10%. China 34%, Vietnam 46%. Imports of finished vehicles face 25% tariff. @Ti_Insight
Global meltdown or shrug of shoulders? In reality different sectors, businesses and countries will be affected in different ways by President Trump's tariffs. Follow the link to read my attempt to bring a bit of order to what is likely to be a chaotic day. PS I'll update the article at some point on April 3rd once we know a bit more!
This is deeply frustrating. London Heathrow is critical to the UK's economy, both in terms of passenger and cargo volumes. The risk of disruption to this transport node is well known and something that I and many others have been writing about for years. Surely the government must have taken an interest in its vulnerability - even if the airport owners didn't have their own back up plans in place to mitigate risk? A fire at a single power sub-station bringing one of the world's busiest airports to a complete halt? Someone has been asleep at the wheel. I imagine it will take days for the chaos to be resolved - and look for unknown risks - such as the inter-connection between energy and Heathrow's ICT networks. @Ti_Insight

On Monday 10th March I appeared before the UK Covid-19 Inquiry as the Expert Witness on PPE and healthcare equipment supply chains. The appearance was the culmination of a year-long project analysing the structure and resilience of UK PPE supply chains before, during and after the pandemic, comparing and contrasting the response with that of other countries. My report contains 29 recommendations on steps which should be taken, in my view, to improve resilience based on industry best practice.

Imposition of Trump’s tariffs on Mexico and Canada part of the war on Fentanyl says Secretary Lutnick - trade measures being used to achieve policy goals rather than to impact trade as an end in itself. In April reciprocal tariffs will be part of economic policy as opposed to security
US Commerce Secretary Lutnick hints on Bloomberg @business that sectors which are ‘USMCA compliant’ could benefit from a carve out or exemption from 25% tariffs - big benefit to auto sector perhaps?
@Cisco CEO @ChuckRobbins on @CNBC says still waiting on outcome of talks on tariffs before implementing supply chain measures. Team has mitigated 80% of impact of last tariffs in 2018 - but requires costly one off initiatives presumably diversifying supply base @Ti_Insight
