@RestIsPolitics do the guests on Leading ever get mad at you for the way you deconstruct them and their answers after they leave the show? And do you do so immediately or do you let the interview percolate a bit first?
@EmpirePodUK what do you think of the thesis of Orlando Patterson in *Slavery as Social Death* that, even more than by economics, slavery cross-culturally is energized by the honor that accrues to the slave owner through the dishonoring of the enslaved?
I think Patterson would disagree with the optimism of the *Dawn of Everything* Davids (as Mary Beard also seemed to). For him slavery is a universal phenomenon rooted in the need to dominate.
@ArkadyMartine really enjoying Memory Called Empire, but I have a question. Why do Teixcalaanlitzlim need to send infofiches? Couldn’t they just send each other emails through their cloudhooks? Or is their a narrative need for infofiches?
Liking James Shapiro’s Shakespeare in a Divided America. Didn’t know that Ulysses S Grant, posted to Corpus Christi during the Mexican American War, was cast as Desdemona in a production of Othello because of his “girlish” features and diminutive frame https://t.co/8GYzEMUHts
