Personally your ability to spend on the non-essentials should be the basis of taxes. So low gas tax, low income tax and highish sales tax is best combo for raising revenue nationally. Total tax ~9% should do. Glad to see taxes lowered.

Too bad I missed my favorite @Amtrak train, Carolinian, by about 30 mins. Took it twice: to Fredricksburg in August; Greensboro last month. Takes a painful 12 HR to go between CLT & NYP (8a to 8p). Looking forward to when this Petersburg-to-Durham corridor is built (saves 2 HR).
