@katiedimartin After a presentation someone came up to speak to me. I assumed it had to do with the paper. No. She came to introduce herself as the person who's article I "butchered" as a copyeditor for a PR journal. Her goal was clearly to humiliate me - a grad student - in front of witnesses.

@chileanista I kept going because 1) I desperately loved my research & topic, and 2) after many years of hard work and in the face of a very uncertain career trajectory I was gonna be "doctor" and they could never take that away!

@dlondonnyu Things I've needed to hear & internalize post grad school that may help: it's ok to prioritize financial stability; flexibility & adaptability are possible; not all history jobs are worth having; it's ok to choose family, location, hobbies, etc over "ideal" jobs; & just try stuff

@car1ygoodman Many of these faculty members likely did what is expected of them - moving anywhere, jumping through VAP temp positions, etc. They've made those sacrifices...and now their very lives (& their spouses and children) are in danger bc of it. (2/2)

@car1ygoodman The pandemic has magnified this beyond community and family to highlight safety based on geography. My heart is breaking for #AcademicTwitter crying out w/ faculty afraid for their lives bc their states and schools will not require masks or vaccines. (1/2)
