Beautiful figure showing bird 🐦 wings & legs evolve independently, while bat 🦇 wing & leg proportions are integrated. This may have inhibited bat adaptive responses such as lower rate of phenotypic evolution & homogeneous evolution in contrast to birds | https://t.co/AxHcLXMybd
@RealLyndaCarter According to my taxonomy nerds are the ones who are unable to match their clothing. You forgot dork, but they are generally characterized by not being able to get laid. I suspect that menswear guy does just fine in that department. Geeks are into minutiae. He is a geek
@dendromecon27 Long-standing slur against immigrants. I remember people saying the same bullshit about Hmong people when I was a teen. It was mean and racist and xenophobic then too.
Bats are vital to our ecosystems. When they decline, so do we - and it comes at a high cost to society. A scary yet eye-opening research #bats#biodiversity
@HonkIfUrHoary Not callous in my opinion. It is totally possible to 1) be horrified by the tragic loss of life in a school shooting and 2) still advocate for humane criminal justice, which is an important part of civil society
St Louis won the water lily weigh off at @mobotgarden with 142 lbs!!! We did it! Thanks @denverbotanic for challenging other botanical gardens to partake!
@ethanblinck I read it in grad school and had just been thinking about re-reading. Thanks for the reminder. A bonus for me was that my graduate advisor knew a number of the folks mentioned in the cladistic-phenetic war part of the book. His gossip made it more enjoyable.
