My tenure as a Town of Cedar Point Commissioner ended at last night’s Board of Commissioners meeting.
I have been very honored and privileged to serve the Town in various capacities from 2016 until last night.
I am a strong advocate for the proposed by-pass between Swansboro and Newport as well as the third bridge to help relieve traffic on our already over burdened roads and highways.
The political system is dominated by two major parties, raising concerns about representation for over one-third of North Carolinians without a voice.

Did you know that meteorologists utilize satellite imagery for more than just clouds? Here is a good example of meteorological features that we look at in addition to cloud cover. This is a combined RGB (Red, Green, Blue) composite, which makes this possible.
For the men and women of The North Carolina National Guard and Joint Task Force North Carolina, this mission is no fail, and we’ll continue to work around the clock until it’s complete.

North Carolina is headed into a big state budget problem.
Under Republican leadership, they've cut taxes while expanding spending. Our legislature's in-house fiscal analysis group now says that will lead to big and growing structural budget shortfalls by FY2026. #ncpol
A sunny start to 2024 with highs into the mid/upper 50s. A cold night upcoming with lows in the low/mid 30s. Next chance of rain comes with a mid level trough shown on Wednesday night bringing widespread showers to the coastal Carolinas. Rain will continue into Thu before ending.
Interesting fact. The United States is producing about 13.2 million barrels of crude oil per day. That is millions of gallons more than is coming out of Saudi Arabia or Russia. #EnergyIndependance#AmericaStrong
The 118th Congress is on track to make the “do nothing” Congresses of the past look like juggernauts. Axios reports on Quorum data showing that just 20 bills were passed by both chambers and signed into law in 2023. That is by far the fewest for a calendar year in decades.
🗳️ @LesterHoltNBC@kwelkernbc@hughhewitt just asked the GOP candidates about the opioid crisis and the issue of immigration emerged.
For decades, Washington has tried and failed to fix our immigration system and now over 6,000 people are coming across our border illegally every day, along with drugs, weapons and potentially terrorists.
Want to know what the commonsense majority of America thinks?
Commonsense Answer:
America is a nation of laws, so America must immediately regain control of its border, with more barriers, more technology, more border patrol agents and more immigration judges.
America is also a nation of immigrants, and we need more hard-working people who can help grow our economy.
This problem will never get solved unless Democrats and Republicans work together instead of just demonizing one another.

(1/2) Hurricane #Lee is an excellent reminder that impacts from hurricanes CAN occur well away from the center of the storm. Never just focus on where the center of the storm will hit. Lee is more than 500 miles from our beaches, yet we expect impacts through Saturday. #NWS
February’s Gallup poll found that 44 percent of Americans say they are independents, much more than are Democrats (28 percent) or Republicans (27 percent).
Let’s acknowledge the obvious: Our cultural and political diversity does not automatically make us stronger, but is a major contributor to our polarization. Our best hope for civil coexistence is rediscovering the lost art of tolerance.- Gary Abernathy
