I have seen a lot of confusion lately on this so maybe this will help some even though 90% of people I see on here are well aware.

Reconstitution Guide

-The easiest mixing method

A simple rule is to add 0.1 mL (10 units) of bacteriostatic water for every 1 mg of peptide.

This makes the math easy:

10 units = 1 mg

Examples:

5 mg vial Add 0.5 mL water
10 mg vial Add 1.0 mL water
15 mg vial Add 1.5 mL water
20 mg vial Add 2.0 mL water
24 mg vial Add 2.4 mL water
30 mg vial Add 3.0 mL water

With all of these mixtures:

10 units = 1 mg
20 units = 2 mg
30 units = 3 mg
40 units = 4 mg
50 units = 5 mg

The vial size changes, but the math never does.

-Common dose cheat sheet

0.25 mg = 2.5 units

0.5 mg = 5 units

0.75 mg = 7.5 units

1.0 mg = 10 units

1.5 mg = 15 units

2.0 mg = 20 units

2.5 mg = 25 units

3.0 mg = 30 units

3.5 mg = 35 units

4.0 mg = 40 units

5.0 mg = 50 units

Now sometimes more is better if you’re taking very small doses, using more bac water can make measuring easier

Example:

Instead of mixing a 10 mg vial with 1 mL, mix it with 2 mL.

Now:

5 units = 0.25 mg

10 units = 0.5 mg

20 units = 1 mg

The medication is exactly the same strength overall it’s just diluted into a larger volume.

-Which syringe should you use?

All U-100 insulin syringes measure the same concentration.

10 units is always 10 units.

The only difference is how much the syringe holds.

100-unit (1 mL) syringe

Best for doses over 50 units.
Fine for any dose, but small measurements are closer together.

50-unit (0.5 mL) syringe (my go to for 90% of things)

Best for doses under 50 units.
Easier to read and more accurate.

30-unit (0.3 mL) syringe

Best for doses under 30 units.

Smaller syringes don’t change your dose they simply spread the markings farther apart, making low doses easier to measure. Just very important it is in fact a u100 size insulin syringe.
