Sean McVay nailed the job description.
Be an elevator.
Lift people to their highest potential.
That's it.
That's leadership.
Not a critic. Not a ceiling. An elevator. 🔥
I role played being a HC in the Brendon Sorsby situation with our "Coach Advisor" tool -- the AI powered executive coach I built exclusively for sports coaches.
I explained how the whole situation puts us in a tough spot.
Here's how it advised me:
Coach Matt Campbell (@CoachMC_PSU) teaches a clinic here on culture, leadership, and the importance of your organization knowing how and why you do things:
🧫 "Culture is how you live, not what you say." Culture is behavior, not branding. It's not what hangs on the walls, it's what walks the halls! Your team will rarely become what you preach, but it will almost always become what you consistently tolerate, reinforce, and model.
🚂 Communication is the transportation system of leadership. A good leadership train turns complex into simple, digestible, and actionable instructions. Talent, effort, and good intentions can't move very far if the tracks aren't in place or if information isn't flowing like a train. The speed and quality of your communication often determine the speed and quality of your results.
🍓 People can go further when they understand the why behind the what and the how behind the habit. You feel more connected to the outcomes if you know the value of the fruit you're farming. That understanding creates ownership.
The culture at @PennStateFball is being built through relationships, reinforced through standards, and sustained where people understand why their actions matter. 🏗️
"You want to talk about scared .. I'm shaking the door as hard as I can .. just praying & screaming."
Legendary Texas WR Jordan Shipley nearly lost his life in a ranch fire in January. He joined us on @TheStampedeUT to explain how he survived + his new outlook on life. #HookEm
Never understood H.S. coaches who ignore freshman or JV programs.
That’s the future of your varsity team.
Then they complain about no depth, culture, or players ready for varsity.
If you only coach varsity, you’re not building a program—you’re just coaching a team.
As an AD, one of the biggest challenges is understanding what athletes and parents truly want. Everyone says they want to win, but too often the communication I receive is centered around why practice is being missed, why workouts can’t happen, or why the commitment isn’t possible.
Winning is rarely about what happens on game day, it’s built in the unseen hours of preparation, consistency, and sacrifice. You cannot claim to want success while consistently avoiding the work required to achieve it.
Too often, “we want to win” really means “we want the rewards of winning without the discomfort of earning it.” When that gap exists, the blame often shifts to the coach instead of the habits.
Great programs are built when athletes, parents, and coaches all align in understanding that commitment comes before results. Wanting to win and being willing to do what it takes to win are two very different things.
The opening of University of Houston's high-energy practice here at Toyota Center in advance of Sweet 16. Coach Kelvin Sampson making faces at shots he doesn't love, a combination of intensity and lightening the mood. Reserve center Jacob McFarland almost cracks up at faces.
⚡️Quite the electric combo to build a robust vertical jump
Contrast pair these together
1. Medicine ball vertical jump to release-jump
2. Stiff leg box jump
20lb ball, run these in sets of 4 reps
Girls. Training. And ACL Tears.
Girls don't need a 3 day ACL program or a 5 minute ACL Warm up.
Girls don't need a 6-8 wk bootcamp.
It is not a one off thing you do in a 3 day clinic or a 10 minute warm up. It's not a bootcamp right before the season just to not continue with training while in-season.
Girls need sound, progressive and comprehensive S&C 2-3x wk for at least 40 wks during the year during their off and in-season competition periods.
Quad Strength. Glute strength. Landing mechanics. Deceleration. Pivoting/Twisting. Taking contact. Conditioning. Agility. Isometrics. Power work. Etc.. cannot be neglected for weeks or MONTHS on end. It is total negligence to go months without a weight room session or even a break in a kids schedule to make time for training.
It's a year round plan of attack to do the best we can to mitigate risk.
Girls sports and those involved need to do better and what is in our power/control.

The Tandem 2-3 Zone has many abnormal tendencies
This leads to confusing offensive possessions like this, where the offense putters around without real objectives
