@lenyaqd Thank you, .@lenyaqd! We have your leadership to thank for so much of our progress. You are part of a great collaborative forging the path forward.
Rad stuff. Lower stocking levels increases survival during drought & wildfire. More evidence for reducing stand density (see work by Malcolm North, @lostsierrafrstr et al)
Two new articles! We investigated drought-density effects in ponderosa pine forests and found that restoration thinning likely has benefits beyond reducing severe fire risk. It also reduces the risk of drought induced mortality! https://t.co/stMcASyCcD

conducted 4 acres of #RxFire understory burn in ponderosa pine & black oak forest. Plumas County Fire Safe Council, Plumas County RCD, FRC, USFS/PNF, CAL FIRE/LMU, & volunteers #RxFire on Maidu lands north of Quincy. #GoodFire#FireResilience#FireAdaptedHummanCommunities.
You want to be on the Yosemite NPS fire effects crew this summer? Multiple research projects and chances to be involved in prescribed and wildfire! 🏔🌲🔥

There is lots to like in the new wildfire crisis plan out from the @USFS and @BLMFire. But there is also a critical missing ingredient: $$$. We westerners should have no illusions about what the plan can do with BIF funds. We are at ~6% of what we need.

@JaredDahlAldern I know of multiple efforts underway in California. Much more work & organizing needed. Also, mosaic approach in high severity areas that need replanting versus survival areas that need re-entry.
While no solution will be fast, cheap or smoke-free, Prichard said, “the biggest risk we’re taking right now is to continue kicking the can down the road.”
"I think you have to balance the conversation a bit by not only talking about the need to suppress these fires; we have to talk fuel treatments. We have to do a lot more forest treatment so we have healthy, resilient forests. That’s our biggest weapon against...the fire activity"
