Today marks the start of Rural Road Safety Awareness Week!
The FHWA is on a mission to prevent serious injuries and fatal crashes on America’s rural roads. Did you know that 63% of rural road fatalities involve a roadway departure?
Fortunately, we have proven safety countermeasures to fight this. Rumble strips alone can reduce fatal crashes by up to 64%.
Through the Local and Rural Road Safety Program, FHWA provides tools to support the implementation of these proven safety countermeasure tools keeping all road users safe by preventing lane departures. Watch how we’re making a difference: https://t.co/T2huUieVXR
