If I’m the Lakers, looking at these options via trade:
Cam Johnson (DEN)
Royce O’Neale (CHA)
Lou Dort (OKC)
Saddiq Bey (NO)
Outside of that, not seeing a lot of realistic options with what we have to trade.
Sandro Mamukelashvili will go into the Lakers cap space based on these terms.
They have $12.4 million remaining and then the $9.4 million room mid-level exception.
Impossible for the Jazz to turn down that offer
The Lakers entering FA had 5 first-round assets:
2028-swap- to Utah
2030-swap- to Utah
2031-first- to Utah
2032-first
2033- first- to Utah
They are now left with the ability to swap picks in 2032
It looks to be about $32.5M/year for Kessler which is about right.
That means just under $20M left to spend on free agents, barring any other moves for guys like Knecht, Vandy, etc.
Walker Kessler, sources confirm, will be signed-and-traded from the Utah Jazz to the Los Angeles Lakers. Utah won’t be getting any players back in the deal, I’m told.
BREAKING: The Los Angeles Lakers are acquiring Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz for unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033 and first-round swaps in 2028 and 2030, sources tell ESPN. Kessler will sign a massive four-year, $130 million deal with the Lakers.
Another center off the board.
Pelinka going all in with Kessler and Duren. Going for one of the best options on the market is not a bad thing but it’s so damn risky with the RFA tag.
Free agent center Mitchell Robinson has agreed to a three-year, $47.4 million deal to sign with the Boston Celtics, with a player option in third season, sources tell ESPN. Robinson departs the Knicks after serving a key role on the historic championship team.
The Lakers so far have no additions and lost Kennard and Smart, who both got team friendly contracts.
If Rui is gone next, this is a complete roster overhaul which I don’t think is on purpose, it’s negligence.
Pelinka needs to be fired into the sun.
