@nicholadrummond Personally, the War Movie that impressed me most recently was the new 'Unknown Soldier', the director's cut, not the cinematic version. The immersion it provides and the subtlety with which it treats the contradictions of the Continuation War make it a masterpiece.
@TimRuhr Wine is made of grapes, I don't think it's an absurd bureaucratic hurdle to prevent people who do something else from calling it wine (even on the odd occasion they actually end up using grapes).
@lehtinenmarkkua@mtmalinen@mikko_miksal@emilkastehelmi@MarinSanna@anttikaikkonen@niinisto The point is essentially moot as there is no operational need to deploy nukes: NATO was capable of striking Russia before, and will remain so with or without deployment on Finnish soil. Sure, certain targets may become easier to strike, with different hardware, but the ... 1/2

@TimRuhr So calling it the "hydrogen" value-chain is essentially greenwashing. Hydrogen is just a step on the way of making methane, which is the actual fuel. And the carbon ends up being emitted anyway, it's just been used twice, so to say.
@roopegroot @TimRuhr ... enjoys a roughly 30% sympathy-quote chose, back then, not to pursue the renewal of the candidacy because it wasn't politically opportune does not mean that the Swiss are opposed to joining the EU. We are realists, and we know how to choose and time our battles.
@roopegroot @TimRuhr Are you referencing how the candidate status was left to expire? 6 years ago?
First off: six years ago was a massive amount of time ago. Pretty sure 6 years ago a sensible majority of Finns were against Finland joining NATO...
Then: again, that the European movement which...
@roopegroot @TimRuhr First of all, that can't be right: the European movement is alive and kicking (starting a new campaign to finally join the EU).
Second: it is a bit disparaging to read this kind of comments. Even I go like:"well if the Europeans are going to be bitches about it, I'll just say no"
@TimRuhr Also, I can't say for sure about the Finnish system but reflecting back to my own upbringing, the inequalities were hammered in in schools: pupils were constantly ranked, only the ones with the best grades would make it to the best schools or even worse, would have the ...
Makes sense, but it only makes obtaining information from the front more difficult. As this same person points out in another tweet, this means that any "information" coming from there is by nature unverified and potentially propaganda or "fake news".
Kyiv has just issued strict orders stating that no media may accompany frontline soldiers or any military units over the next week in the active theatres of war including Kharkiv, Kherson, or the Donbas regions.
Doing so will result in potential loss of accreditation.
@ahtoapajalahti@Adrian_M_Boyko@brokenpixelua Haven't they been the ones launching probes (already since 2014) about possible peacekeepers? Problem being, the list of acceptable Nations is shrinking every day, especially to take the lead. Finland and Sweden used to be high on that list...
@Sonoran@Adrian_M_Boyko@brokenpixelua At the price of protracting a conflict that has no palatable solution? At the risk of enticing Russia to use its last "tactical" advantage in the form of nuclear weapons?
