The great rewiring of the brain began when the smartphone was born! We transitioned from play-based childhoods to screen-based, and this has been detrimental to child development. Kids learn through unstructured play, and often learn more when unsupervised by adults (meaning, adults aren’t interrupting opportunities to face conflict and take risks). Taking away opportunities for play is something that adults MUST avoid.
This includes home AND school. If anything, they need more play-based opportunities, not less. Removing recess and play time may seem like good consequence for poor behavior, but what it actually does is hold kids back from developing normally with their chronological age.
