A kid invited me to his 16th birthday party today. And I was like “awe he’s growing up.” Then I remembered that I was at his mother’s 16th birthday party too. “Ew, I’M growing up” 👵🏻
Nothing will ruin a friendship faster than watching your friend showing up for other people in a way they don’t show up for you. You have the capacity, just not for our friendship.
friendly reminder:
you can start anytime.
you can brush your teeth in the middle of the day. you can wash the dishes at 2am. you can do things outside the normal times assigned by society.
Being a young mother pretty much guarantees you’ll never get any invitations. I grew up with strict parents and by the time I moved out I was pregnant. I LOVE being a mother but I miss being a friend, I miss being considered for fun outings or even just invited to hang someplace
It’s actually insane the size of the gap between how I see myself and how people see me. I’m so full of love and creative ideas and I’m funny and I WANT to connect with people. But I have crippling social anxiety and the worst case of RBF.
In silence. And in the place I used to hold, she now has other pals she takes along to bond with MY niece and nephew instead. The vacations and camping and shopping trips I should’ve been along for, had things not been upended…. I get to mourn it all. For why? WHY?
I can’t tell you how painful it is to feel like an outsider everywhere you go. Amongst your big family gatherings. Amongst girls you consider to be your closest friends. To be left out of group photos, never receive any invitations, have people walk right by you without speaking.
The girl my brother used to be married to was like a sister to me. I loved her and did so much with her in the years we were family. When she decided to divorce him it blindsided us all. What was worse, she cut off our friendship unprovoked as well… I have had to mourn it…
