Today, we must speak about one of the biggest threats to our profession: the *unsustainable fare-negotiation model promoted by inDrive* For years, this model has encouraged riders to bargain down the value of a professional driver's service. Instead of pricing rides based on the true cost of operation, riders are invited to suggest what they are willing to pay, often at prices that do not reflect fuel costs, vehicle maintenance, depreciation, insurance, traffic, or the driver's time. The result is a race to the bottom. This model has gradually changed passengers' expectations. Many riders now believe they should decide the value of a driver's labour, and this mentality has spread across the e-hailing industry. *The consequences are clear:* ▫️Drivers work longer hours for less income. ▫️Vehicle maintenance is becoming unaffordable. ▫️Many drivers are trapped in debt. ▫️Professional standards are being undermined. ▫️The entire industry is being pushed toward unsustainable pricing. *But there is another truth we must face.* No app can succeed with this model if drivers refuse to participate in it. Every driver who accepts a fare that cannot sustain the business contributes knowingly or unknowingly to weakening the profession for everyone else. A CALL TO ACTION If we want to restore dignity to our profession, we must stop supporting pricing models that drive fares lower and lower. I therefore appeal to every professional e-hailing driver to carefully consider where they invest their time and effort. Stand together. Support fair pricing. Reject fares that cannot sustain your business. Strengthen AUATON and work collectively for lasting industry reforms. Our profession deserves respect. Our labour has value. Our time has value. Dear Lagos E-Hailing Drivers,

There comes a time when silence becomes dangerous.

Today, we must speak about one of the biggest threats to our profession: the *unsustainable fare-negotiation model promoted by inDrive*

For years, this model has encouraged riders to bargain down the value of a professional driver's service. *A CALL TO EVERY STAKEHOLDER IN THE E-HAILING INDUSTRY* Sometimes, we all need to pause and ask ourselves one simple but important question: Who truly benefits when platform drivers are divided? The answer is obvious. It is certainly not the driver struggling every day to provide for his family. It is not the driver risking his life on the roads of Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Enugu, Ibadan, or anywhere else in Nigeria. The greatest beneficiaries of our division are the app companies. Let’s be honest with ourselves. Every app company is a capitalist business. Their primary responsibility is to protect their profits, satisfy investors, and grow their business. They are not charities, and they are not established to put the welfare of platform drivers ahead of their corporate interests. That is why they have lawyers, policy experts, public relations teams, technology, executives, and enormous financial resources working every day to protect their business. The question is: who is protecting the drivers? If we continue fighting ourselves, creating camps, and allowing personal interests to come before our collective future, then we are doing exactly what strengthens those who already have the advantage over us. This is why I am calling on every AUATON State Council, every executive, every stakeholder, every fleet owner, every captain, every platform representative, and every app-based driver across Nigeria to fall into formation. This struggle is bigger than any one individual. It is bigger than any chairman. It is bigger than any president. It is bigger than any executive. It is about the future of an industry that feeds thousands of Nigerian families. As Africans, we have a philosophy that has guided communities for generations, Ubuntu. “I am because we are.” Your struggle is my struggle. Your pain is my pain. Your victory is my victory. If one driver is unjustly deactivated, we should all be concerned. If one driver is attacked, every driver should feel it. If one driver’s vehicle is impounded unfairly, it affects all of us. Because tomorrow, it could be any one of us. Leadership will come and go. Positions will change. Elections will be held. But the ordinary driver will still wake up every morning hoping to make enough to feed a family, pay school fees, settle rent, and survive another day. Sometimes, we all need to pause and ask ourselves one simple but important question:

Who truly benefits when platform drivers are divided?

The answer is obvious.

It is certainly not the driver struggling every day to provide for his family. It is not the driver risking his life on the roads of Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Enugu, Ibadan, or anywhere else in Nigeria.

This struggle is bigger than any one individual.

It is bigger than any chairman.

It is bigger than any president.

It is bigger than any executive.

It is about the future of an industry that feeds thousands of Nigerian families.

As Africans, we have a philosophy that has guided communities for generations, Ubuntu.

“I am because we are.”

Your struggle is my struggle.

Your pain is my pain.

Your victory is my victory.

If one driver is unjustly deactivated, we should all be concerned.

If one driver is attacked, every driver should feel it.

If one driver’s vehicle is impounded unfairly, it affects all of us.

Because tomorrow, it could be any one of us.

Leadership will come and go.

Positions will change.

Elections will be held.

But the ordinary driver will still wake up every morning hoping to make enough to feed a family, pay school fees, settle rent, and survive another day.

That driver deserves a strong, united, and respected union.
